clutch and flywheel
clutch and flywheel
I am thinking of upgrading to a aluminum flywheel and lightweight clautch assby on my 99 cobra but have heard some negs as to chatter and some normal driving issues as if you don't dump it you'll have problems with chatter and other problems any reccommendations?

I was in your same boat when I started to order transmission parts for my 04 Cobra (**** TOB and Sleeve wore out). It all comes down to what exactly you use your car for.
Aluminum Flywheel:
- Gain at most 10HP over the steel
- Slightly Faster 1/8 1/4 traps
- Quite a bit more chatter under DD conditions
Steel Flywheel:
- Increased 60 foot times
- Much improved driveability through decreased chatter
- Can withstand more abuse than the aluminum
If you do alot of road racing/top end pulls, aluminum is the way to go. But if the car is more of a DD with limited drag use, I would reccomend steel. People will argue over and over and over again over this, but the truth is there isn't that much of a difference between the two. Personally I went with a steel one as I don't really race, and I put around alot and the possible chattering that could come up with a aluminum flywheel would drive me insane. The 03/04 Cobras came stock with an aluminum FW, but since I went with a more aggressive clutch I decided to switch over to a steel FW. I haven't had the opportunity to install it yet as I'm waiting on a 26 spline input shaft that has been back ordered since god knows when.
What clutch kit are you going with and who are you ordering from?
