Hey guy,
Looks like I finally broke my T-45. Pops out of 1st really bad and does the same in 2nd sometimes. Does anyone have any experiance rebuilding one of these. I'd like to go T-56 but I just don't have the money for it right now. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Byron. As you know, I rebuilt my T5. Of course, since a bearing busted a few weeks ago, doesn't sound like I am the best to help.
They are both Tremecs. Can't be that much difference. Hanlon Motorsports http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ has three different types of rebuild kits. Problem is, you may have damaged first and second gears, plus the cluster gear shaft will need to be inspected well. Takes a few special tools and a press to rebuild them.

A Viper T56 will fit, it just takes some modification to the input shaft I believe. A T56 is a T56 no matter what vehicle it came out of. D & D Performance, I think thats the name, sells kits for the various T56 installs. If you have a mod motor you might look to install a Tremec 3650. They were installed on the 2001 Bullits and mid-01 and later new edge Mustang GTs. It is a much better transmission then the T-45 and T-5. Its just harder to come by. You would need a new shifter, but if you get a tranny from a junk yard you can probably use the one that came on it.
A T56 isn't the same for every vehicle. There are many different flavors. an 03-04 Cobra will slide right into place but has an electronic speed sensor instead of my mechanical (same goes for the 3650, it's just an update of the T45). A viper spec T56 has a 26spline input shaft and is rated to about 560ft-lb, Cobra is 440ft-lb I believe, it also has a different gear set that includes a .50 od 6th gear, again Cobra's have a .62 od 6th. Then there's the Corvettes and Aston-Marton which are both different than the others. As you can tell I'm researching options. The biggest problem with a T56 is price of entry; I would have to buy a driveshaft and crossmember also.
Ralf - Dad suggested taking it out and breaking it down and inspecting the damage. This may be my best bet at this point. If things are way broken then I can save the money on a rebuild and just get a new T45. Or just let the car sit for a few months while I save up for a T56.
FYI, there may be a few ways around the speed sensor issue but I'm not done investigating that yet. I know I can get T56's from D&D with mechanical speedo outputs.

bullits had a 6 speed. your probably getting confused with the mach.
No Bullits did not have 6 speeds. There have been only two Mustangs that came from the factory with 6 speeds transmissions, the 03-04 Cobras and the 07-08 GT500s. Enjoy.

It was not an option either. If infact it had a 6 speed, it was not factory. There was a blue Mustang Bullitt floating around Huntsville about two years ago. I spoke with the guy about purchasing it. He had done a Viper T56 install, and several other mods including a Novi 2000. That may be the one you are thinking about. Trust me when I tell you that Bullitts were not available with 6 speeds in any way shape or form.

No 6 speed for the Bullit. No 6 speed for the new Bullit either.
