Air Compressor

I'm thinking about getting a good sized air compressor that will run just about everything. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about the Husky 3.2 HP 60 Gal or a smaller Kobalt 30 gal.

The bigger, the better. I have an 80 gal, 5HP Sanborn that rarely cycles off when doing media blasting. You really need a lot of cfm for that type of work.

Looking to get something around $500 or less. What did that 80 gal cost and where did you buy it from?

i have a sears 1.6 hp 26 gallon unit, tat barely runs air tools,

everyone tells me the size of the tank is not the answer it is how many HP and cfm it will put out continuously

my compressor is a small upright for the garage, but yes next time i will be getting atleast a 5 hp 80 gallon tank

in the 500.00 range i would probably recommend this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...RTETVYYY3FWTG9

this will be my next compressor, it should last me a good 30-50 years

I believe the Husky is made by Campbell Hausfeld and is in the $400 range. I'll have to add the regulator, 220 volt hook ups and gauge, which should put it in the $500 area. I like the Kobalt, smaller but should run some tools a little. Yea I would love that Ingersoll-Rand that will run everything!!

FWIW, my Campbell Hausfeld 60 gal/6HP is 10 years old now and is still working great. It will run anything without needing constant refreshing... even lengthy bursts with the impact wrench. Plenty of CFM is key to getting full power from tools like impact wrenches and most compressors under 5hp/50 gallon are marginal.

Thanks to everyone I still have a lot of research to do. For the cost and reviews, I'm looking at the Husky 60 gal closely.

OK, I went ahead a bought the Husky 60 gal. and have a maybe stupid question. Reading the owners manual it says to lower the pressure to below 20lbs before draining the water in the tank. Should I really do the or is it a serious safety issue if I don't lower it and just open it a little to drain?

Thanks, I thought everyone might just do that. It seemed easier just to open the bleeder a bit.

Another question. Rubber isolators on the ground, or should I use rubber isolators on the pump and electric motor?

Reminds me of my buddy. He got a big one for painting and gave the little one to his son-in-law.

A few months later he realized he should have kept the little one. Cause now when he wants to do something simple like air in the tires, he has to wait longer for the big one to fill.

So you might want to hang on to the little one too.

I'll leave the large one filled and just open the bleeder a little to drain the water everyday.
