3G Alternator upgrade

Hey Guys, This info may be of some use to you. It is a webpage explaining how to upgrade to a 3G alternator off of a mid '90's Ford. Just be careful not to let the "magic smoke" out during the installation.

LMFAO...magic smoke....I did this with a 200 amp alt from PA performance on my 89 lincoln.....worked perfectly. I loved it, never had a power problem again.

I just completed an upgrade to my 65 amp to the 135 amp, I bought the kit from Alter Start, lifetime warranty, etc, had the new positive cable, and the longer bolt with the nut, etc. My only complaint is now the stock AMP meter doesn't work. It reads a discharge all the time.

Sam, Do you happen to have a wiring diagram in a JPEG image form ? At first glance it looks as though the '65 wire colors and the '95 are the same. Possibly as simple as cutting the old Alternator & regulator loose from the '65 harness and splicing in the '95 3G internal regulator alternator.
Thanks for any info

Sorry, no JPG, no pictures with the instructions to even scan in for you.

They had me remove 2 wires that were connected together at the alternator (Positives) and just tape them off and leave them disconnected. Then I ran a new Positive to the battery. That was it.

Good Luck,
Sam

Thanks Sam

Hey Sam, I was reading so fast the other day that I thought you had a '65 Mustang. I see that you have an '86. It's a fairly simple install on the later models. Thanks again.
