302 engine build
i really havent planned anything just yet, just clean it up for now, i was gonna put it in a miata, but i went and tried to get in one.......not happening im to tall. So now i am just cleaning it up.
I got it used ~8 years ago with ~25K miles. It was one of a set of engines a guy bought from Ford. It's a 93 block. I threw in a crank kit, new rings, FMS oil pump driveshaft, new lifters, left the cam in, 3-angled and ported the E7 heads, ripped the EFI and carb'ed it. Ran high 8's down at the track, but it was for my 84 daily driver.
In November, I was on a rally with one of the Vette clubs. I missed a shift, hit 8K, busted the oil pump driveshaft. Was in the hills of TN. Figured a wrecker would be expensive. Decided to drive it home 60 miles. The next weekend I replaced the driveshaft, pump, threw some oil in it and drive it until July when I swapped it out.
I am dying to see pics of the bearings.

swapping in a matched piston-crank and rod combo.. but unless you want to max out a high dollar small engine you`d be just as well off to pro-charge or supercharge your regular 302 cubes .. how much faster is a 347 small block than a 302 ..
stroker kits are now reasonable, like ~ 800.00 for a basic rotating assembly. You need to notch the cylinder bores for a 347, but thats no big deal (can do with a Dremel).
JMO, if you are going to rebuild anyway, might as well put in a kit.

Opposing viewpoint...
331 gives you 10% more displacement. 347...about 15% more. This is the horsepower gains you should expect from the conversion.
I'd investigate the cost of a simple rebuild using same crank and rods.

suggest a comparison of torque, not HP, esp low-end torque...which is what you want in a street motor.
302 is short-stroke, which makes it particularly responsive to a stroking kit. but in any case, do your research, make your decision. Theres about 10000 metric tons of IntarWeb dedicated to Ford stroker tech, so surf and enjoy.

Best thing is to have an engine shop build a shortblock for you. You might call R&R speed shop, HSV Engine, Southern Cylinder Head, to list a few.
Of course, you'll also need a new oil pump, heads, gasket set, timing set, etc. Cheapest to buy this stuff from the machine shop as well.
