MIGHT This Be The 2008 Bullitt Engine...?
That's what's been rumored since the first posts about "a new engine" based on a 4.6L variant were mentioned on BON (ie 4.6L block w/diff't heads and intake).
As long as they do something to the suspension, and brakes, as well as the usual Bullitt interior/exterior bits/pieces, I'm fine w/it.
That would hopefully keep the sticker price in line and not get too close to a Shelby GT or forthcoming Boss variant MSRP, etc.
Here's to hoping for an under $34K sticker...

I disagree...
But best of all is the fact that it was an ideal starting point for us who would of done the same thing to a regular mustang GT. Everyone jumped on and grabbed that bullitt intake because it benefitted from boost (S/C or turbo) better than the stock manifold. Chassis stiffening was already there, braking (a huge complaint with the reg GT) was already there, and better suspension= alreay there. You got all this, installed by the factory, under warranty, and a special/unique mustang for just over 5000 people. Thats what made the 01 bullitt great.
If the 08 bullit offers better flow in terms of heads and intake, some chassis tweaks, some unique badging, DHG, braking, and special interior I'm all over it. I feel Ford will do the same again and make a perfect starting point for any mustang/performance fan....
My 2 cents....
But seriously I hope it's #2
My hopes...
What I'd like to see and what I'd pay for a 08 Bullitt (Ford, pay attention)
Engine= improved heads and intake (at least 35 hp increase)
Interior= GT500 black on black leather(no polished accents)
Exterior= DHG, "Bullitt" badging, 60's era GT badging (red shield), no fogs, spoiler delete, gt-h/cs front spoiler, 18"X 9" Bullitt whls, chrome door handles and mirror covers, bullitt gas door, quarter glass vents.
Suspension= 1" to 2" drop, re-valved shocks, gt500 brakes (rotors painted red)
Cost= $32,500 (approx)
I think this is do-able....
I doubt they'll put a six speed in there because of cost reasons and the stereo upgrade should be an option.... and a 3.73 rear diff would be a nice touch, with or without a 6 speed.

I know I'm the new kid on the block here, but I've been in the car business all my life, so maybe I can shed some light. Of course, this is speculation, but it's speculation based on my years of experience.
Ford knows that a Bullitt Mustang will be a hit, regardless of engine and suspension configuration. Especially if it has the right look and is a clone of the movie car. So there is no real pressure on Ford to up the power just for the Bullitt. However, if sources that are speculating on a big horsepower bump in 2009 are correct, then Ford may "ramp up" to that by giving the Bullitt 350hp. Personally, a 350hp Bullitt with some nice suspension upgrades would make me happy as a clam.
If Ford is smart, and many times they are not, they will have a pecking order for the Mustang. And while the names may change over the years, they will keep a tiered performance (and price) structure to cover all aspects of the marketplace. The V6 will be the entry level car, the 300hp GT next, then a 350 hp Bullitt (or Mach 1 or whatever they decide to call it in 2009 and beyond), then a 380hp Boss, and then the big dog GT500. Presumably the 350hp car would have less content than the 380hp car to further differentiate their position in the market.
Whether you like Dodge or not, you have to agree that the whole Hemi marketing thing was a stroke of genius. And look at how they market the Charger. They have the base V6 SE, the 250hp V6 SXT, the 340hp Hemi, the 350hp Road and Track package Hemi, and the 425hp SRT. Camaro is going to follow a similar plan with their engine marketing. So why would Ford not follow suit? I think they will, and I think the Bullitt car is the first car to fall into that strategy.

To quote Jeremy Clarkson >>
POWER...!
I agree. And I think the Bullitt will be more than a "BS" job. But my theory is that as long as Ford spends some money on the cosmetics and gets them right, the car will sell, regardless of whether it has any engine or suspension upgrades over a Mustang GT.
