It needs to have the "soul" of the original car (from the movie), IMHO. Forget the '01 car.

Exactly the answer I would expect from a non Bullitt owner. It is a commemorative car not a replica. It should give subtle clues of it's heritage (like the 01 Bullitt) not try to replicate a 1968. There were so many reasons why the 01 shouldn't have been built that the fact that it was built creates a following that can only be felt having been to one of our events. We just had our 5th Nationals and can still get over 35 cars together. We had 52 in San Francisco. For a group that has less than 5288 cars we are doing pretty good.

Ask any one of the Team Mustang members that worked on the design of the 01 and you will hear the same thing the 01 has something different. It remains to be seen whether the 08 will have that "something" but to put it in the trash heap before it's born is exactly like what many on forums did when the 01 was announced.

I almost bought an '01 Bullitt and have been highly anticipating this new car for a while now. I quite liked the '01 but couldn't get past the interiors of the SN95s. IMO, this new car should employ some of the distinctive features from the '01 (painted calipers, etc.), but should more heavily utilize styling cues from the original car upon which BOTH Bullitts are based.

From what I've heard thus far, this '08 Bullitt isn't "commemorative" enough. If you don't want to borrow important styling cues from the '68 on a car that is itself inspired by the 1960s (unlike the '01 Bullitt), then drop the whole Bullitt reference altogether; it's moot.

The twin vented hoods like the original '68 car should be a no-brainer.

ditto to take the 05+ hood which makes the perfect blank canvas for a 68 look and not utilize it would be so stupid for ford.

Very stupid. But then, stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

Let's admit it, WE LOVE FORD! We knock Ford, make fun, ridicule them, gripe, moan, and rant as a means to pressure them for us to get what we want, and it works.

But we are more than happy to buy their products. It's is nothing personal, it's strictly business.

I am pretty sure the '08 BULLITT will be very unique and whoever gets one will be very happy and have a special feeling each and every time the engine starts. I know I did and still do.

The new dies for both the skin and bracing, plus crash testing is way to costy for an 8,000 car production run. Sorry, not a gonna happen.

They don't need to crash test and the bracing stays the same> It's the skin that is replaced....Also the hood will be used on the '09 GT.

According to Shelby even cutting a hole in the hood (functional scoop) would have required the car to be re-tested in that configuration.

As for bracing, it is formed to follow the contours of the present hood skin. Change the shape of the skin and the under bracing needs changing also.

Now if Ford decided to then use that same hood design on future GT models that would be more cost effective but would take much of the "special" out of the Bullitt.

what context was that qoute?

the only official word from ford stated nothing about a new hood or better brakes. if the bullitt is getting a new new hood(the 09 mustang gt hood) could it also get a 13inch brake upgrade? maybe the 13 inch 09 mustang gt brakes?

I was thinking if they didn't want to copy the 68 Mustang they could do something like the concept hood that could be inspired by the 68 hood and make it look like the attached picture.

That's not half bad at all, actually.
