A few questions...
The more I look at it, the more I like the Bullitt. I was planning on buying a loaded 08 GT w/the ford power and handling packs - but now I'm leaning towards the Bullitt. Here are some questions...
The 315hp... It seems as though the Bullitt has the same engine mods as a Shelby GT but is 10hp less - anyone know why?
I've read that the axle is out of the GT500... can someone expand on this? I don't think the suspension components are the same, otherwise they would mention it.. is it just the taller gear?
What's the deal with the tranny? I read it's unique to this car.. any details?
Any additional info is appreciated! Thanks...

The Bullitt is growing on me more too. The 315HP rating is with regular fuel where the Shelby GT is calibrated for premium fuel. Not to worry though, as the car will "sense" if you're using premium fuel and up the HP accordingly in the 325HP range. Neat, huh? I've heard that the axle is from the GT500 as well and am not too sure exactly what this means over a regular GT. Perhaps the axles themselves have been beefed up to handle the extra grunt. The suspension components are exclusive to the Bullitt and include different shocks and struts and dampers for a nice tight ride, yet compliant for the street. Another nice feature of the Bullitt. I don't think there is any difference in the tranny, same as a regular GT, but Ford has improved the shifter and eliminated some of the sloppy feel. A great valued package overall.
Have a look through some of the other posts here for more pics and info.

The slight difference in HP could also be due to the different computer tunes that Shelby versus Ford chose to include. Either can be upgraded with an aftermarket tuning device to increase power and / or driving feel.
By the way, only the 2006 Shelby GT (Hertz edition) was rated at 325 hp. The 2007 and 2008 Shelby GTs were rated at 319.

first off the loaded 08 mustang gt will cost you just as much as the 08 bullitt! and you will still need to spend 2k+ to get the packs that you want.
as said earlier the bullitt is hitting 315 with 87 oct. the shelby gt needs at least 91oct to get the 319hp its at. also worth mentioning the bullitt is pulling laps equal or greater than that of the shelby gt. the tune and handling on the bullitt are as good as the frpp power/handling packs.
i have no idea what they mean by this. the gt500 is running 3.31 gears, the bullitt is running 3.73 gears. is the kr going to run with 3.73? do they all have the 31 spline axles? maybe thats what they are talking about?

Ford switched to 31 spline axles on all V8 Mustangs starting with 2005. Prior to that we had 28 spline axles - even the 03/04 Mach 1's and Cobras had the 28's with more than a few broken axles at the dragstrip on heavily modded cars.
The 2006 GT-H's 325hp rating was not SAE certified for Hertz. When it came time for Ford to SAE certify the publicly available 2007 Shelby GT, the reality was that it was 319hp.
Bullitt gets the same Tremec transmission that's in the standard GT, just a different shifter.
Taking a regular GT, then replicate the parts/labor in the Bullitt (just powertrain & suspension - leave out the cosmetic stuff) would cost about the same as the $3,310 package price for the Bullitt, so it's a good value for what is being offered.

I will be the first to tell you that SE are GREAT if you want THAT CAR! If what you plan is to have something special (i.e. SE "Bullitt") then GO FOR IT. I like the car, the Highland Green, and some of the other nostalgic details.
I however, have a GT Deluxe with mods. My car cost $27005 delivered. Adding a C&L Racer Intake, DiabloSport Racer Tune, UDPs, Hurst shifter, Steeda Competition Springs, LCAs, and Panhard rod put me back another $1350. My cosmetic parts (mostly CDC and MGW) put me back another $650.
So when you ask if buying a Bullitt is right, well, Do you want a Bullitt? You'll have a blast if you order any Mustang, but just take a moment to realize that when you buy a package, it is not beneficial to take anything off of the car and swap.
Personally, I don't think most people will outdrive a Bullitt on the street. I think if you are looking for a track car, then obviously an SE is not the most cost effective way to go. If you are going to do a S/C or something in the future, you won't be throwing out much on the Bullitt.
Good Luck, either way.
