It's all in the tune. With a tuner, you can do the same thing. Heck, you can raise the max rpm to 8,000 if you want, or lower it all the way down to 3,000. It's just a different computer setting than the regular GT's.

Diff. crank damper and such. With a tuner, you can raise the max rpm, but that doesn't mean it's still safe to go that high, right?

Well, it depends on how much higher you want to go. I don't think the Bullitt has a different dampener. Raising the limit to 6500 is not much of a stretch. That is what mine is set at. These mod motors can handle some rpms much easier than the old pushrod motors. I wouldn't push the stock engine much more than 7K, but I think 6,500 should be plenty safe.

I think it was stated in the interviews with the engineer that it does have a diff. dampener.

It is possible, I just have not heard that. I don't really know why they would do that, it's only 15hp more, and 250rpm is not much at all really. Ah well, I'm sure there is a reason.

Haha, true. Still nice to see some diff. parts than what is in a normal GT.

7000 rpm would be really cool for this car...

but i was told by KenB of modular depot that we can not change the RPM...cause this motor can not take it.

perhaps 250-500 is still ok...

Roush upp'd the RPM to 7000...so, i think it might ok..

Obviously a rise of 250 is ok- otherwise Ford would never do it. They aren't going to want to blow out motors and have to replace them under warranty.
The 250 might not seem like much- but it does give you a little bit more time to wind this car out. There have been many times that I'm launching in 1st (in my 05) and then BAM- rev limiter kicks in. And extra 250 would've prevented this in almost all cases.

There is a different crank dampener.

I think the reason Ford did the extra 250rpm is for track use and for hitting the "sweet spot" with the exhaust system.

3.73 gears might have warrented the change too. lengthen out the rpm since the gearing is tighter.

And just to point out even if the mod motor can safly spin to 7000 you would not get any gains unless you changed your cams to take advantage of it.

I think you misunderstood me. I meant you can't take it really high. The limitation as far as I'm concerned is the rods and hardware. I wouldn't go above 6500 on a stock engine.

I disagree with some of the opinions in this thread though. There are benefits to reving higher than stock with a stock engine. It depends on your tune of course and the power curve. I shift mine at 6,300 - 6,400.

Most peoples theories on shift points are way off...

In one or two of the videos the Ford Chief Engineer explains what they did. I think there is a new crank dampener, and new knock technology, also related to the dual octane fuel capability

the redline and actual rpm limit are two different things. the rpm limit, meaning the computer will not let you rev it beyond this predetermined number is there to protect the engine. whats the redline for? to tell one your getting close?

if i remember correctly the redline was 6800 and the limiter was around 7200 in my 03 mach 1. yea i bounced it off the limiter a few times. also i believe the computer will record every time the engine hits the limiter. its not a good habit to get into. this safety feature can be raised and or deleted with tune i believe just as the mph limiter can be changed.

You would need to dyno the bullitt to see where the besst shift point would be.

Having owned and raced an 03 Mach 1, I had gotten used to shifting near 7,000 rpm's (redline at 6,800 and fuel cutoff at 7,100 rpm's). The first few weeks I owned the 07 GT I was perpetually hitting the rev limiter as I was used to the sound of a 4.6 going higher.

Installed 4.10 gears when my 07 was just 2 weeks old, and changed the tune for a 7,000 rpm cutoff. This kept me from bumping the limiter. At the dragstrip, I found that shifting around 6,500 rpm's works best. Shifting any lower or higher, and the ET's aren't as good, so 6,500 it is.

If you look at most dyno graphs for stock/mild 4.6 3V's, they are still building hp at the 6,000 factory redline. There is still enough hp up to 6,500 to warrant using it. After 6,500, though, airflow and cam timing just plain run out of usefullness. As the Bullitt isn't getting different heads or cams, it will have the same issue.

Thanks for that info, I always knew there was a little more room for power left in the stock engine!!
