Autoblog reaction to Bullitt
Autoblog reaction to Bullitt
He was really careful about what he was saying, but I think John Neff might have said a little too much about the Bullitt in one of the latest Autoblog Podcasts, i think number 55. I had typed out the important bits, but I forgot about it for a while. Basically, he tries avoid actually saying that he saw it at the Showroom of the future event so as not to incriminate himself, but he couldn't help but let slip that he was REALLy impressed. He said its the best mustang yet in this latest generation.
I hope I don't get him in trouble for posting this, but its kinda plainly out there for all to hear in the podcast. And besides, could Ford really get mad about his comments?

"... Next up is talk of the Bullitt Mustang that's on its way with 400 horsepower and a chassis tuned for handling. We thought we liked the Shelby GT, but the BULLITT will be the bomb all-around Mustang when it debuts in a few..."
Hopefully this guy knows for sure and has the facts to back his statements. I am rooting for him to be right.

I really hope this guys is right too...but Brad keeps saying otherwise.
Some info is a rehash of the Stangsunleashed article which we know there is no way the car has a 400 HP 4.6, but one of the presenters saw the concept at the Showroom of the Future (although he can't say that).... His words were "it is F'n Sweet!!" He also states it was the best looking Mustang to come out so far! Man that sounds so cool. These are just car guys not Mustang or Ford lovers so that is high praise indeed!
Correct (/\), the guy that SAW the Bullitt, stated they gave no details on powertrain info, only let them see the car. All their specs were quoted directly from the stangsunleashed website.
Would be great if it did actually come w/Ford GT heads, diff't intake, etc, even if it can't hit 400HP (maybe 350?)...

Yeah...that's why I more or less stopped reading the Bullitt section anymore - don't need to get sukked into this dilemma again.
Ultimately, there's a lot of erroneous info in that Autoblog podcast; they obviously never researched it beyond StangsUnleashed's "facts." The only good thing in that whole thing is that the guy apparently saw it and said it looked "f'n sweet".
But I don't believe it will get a power boost beyond what any of us can easily do to our GTs either.

So what would a SOC 4.6 with GT heads, unique intake and throttle body with a CAI, GT 500 X pipe and a tune put down?? 350 possibly?? If they would put that type of engine together with the handing and braking it would be a F'N Sweet car.... Sounds like the looks alone are going to be amazing.

Are you sure you want the answer? I don't want any beaching. OK?
If the Redfire GT is your favorite then don't look back and mod it to your liking. If you have a second color choice available in '08 you would be absolutely happy with no regrets in case the Bullitt doesn't pan out then wait.

I first thought you meant SOHC...and i was thinking man i want to see this SOHC 4.6 somhow use Ford GT heads.

Bottom line: there will always be a "better" car, and while I love the idea of the Bullitt, overall I still prefer the Redfire to the DHG on the S197s anyway.
NY in April is the point-of-no-return for me. If they show the Bullitt in NY and it absolutely rocks (power notwithstanding), then I can cancel/change my Redfire order. If they show it and it's ho-hum, then I go ahead and take delivery of my Redfire GT in April. But I'm not waiting past that point.

I won't get the HIDs, but it's a lot easier to retrofit the Xenons into an '07 than it is to repaint an '08.
I actually bid on that 2005 Highland Green MotorTrend GT (on ebay) a couple of weeks ago and almost ended up being the high bidder. It was a rash decision to bid on it and I'm glad I was out bid in the last 13 minutes. An indication of how impatient I've become.
Yikes...!
