The best time to see the rear of the '68 GT in the movie is right after McQueen goes into the dirt to avoid the motorcycle 7 or 8 minutes into the chase.

 

i agree that the placement kills it, but the real Bullitt better have the badge, or at least lettering in the bumper... something.

Looks green to me, but during the final chase sequences, there are definitely times where it appears to have a matte black center section. Some have suggested that the two cars had different colored central areas. Let the debate rage on >>

 

There are some sections of the movie where it does look gloss black. But also some sections where it looks green. I did some checking, and none of the 68 bullitt replicas out there are painted black either.

 

Bullitt looks good and I'm really loving the Grabber Orange Boss 302-esque Mustang beside it

 

I think it's just the highland green, but really dirty and it makes it seem flat black.

Remember, when it was filmed, there were no other Stangs with the blackout like that (not until the Mach 1, IIRC) and I doubt Ford got the idea from the movie.

 

The following screencaps pretty much confirm the rear panel on the stunt car was black. Looks like a semigloss finish more than a gloss or flat.

Oh BTW, sorry for hyjacking the thread. That clone in Tokyo of the 2001 style Bullitt does look really nice!

 

It doesn't look black to me.

I see some green in these screen captures. So besides us analyzing pictures, does anyone know of a reliable source that states one way or the other?

 

It's the lighting. Look at the lower rear panel below the rear bumper, it appears to be black as well but it is not.

Another shot which might clear this up can be seen towards the end of the chase when the Mustang is trying to run the Charger off the road.

ok, so seriously, you are comparing my clear large resolution DVD screen caps to blurry low resolution photos snagged from the internet and saying the blurry color bleed pixelated images are correct. Have fun in Egypt while you are in DENIAL.

Yeah, you can clearly see the valance below the bumper is DHG while the rear panel is clearly black.

 

Sorry, I have the DVD, too - and your screen caps prove nothing. I have color sampled several of the screencaps using Photoshop, and they always came up a muddy shade of dark green.

 

Did you adjust the brightness and contrast...

If you can't see the green pixels circled in this blow up of your image, then you're blind (in fact, you can see that the center gas cap is DEFINITELY black...and is much darker by comparison). Black recedes and absorbs light. That rear panel most definitely does NOT. >>

 

OMG! you are right! Oh Wait! there is green on the bumper too and there is some on the licence plate, oh, and on the pavement, holy smokes the shadow under the car is full of green too.
