The REBIRTH OF THE GT350 - WE WANT THE WOW - FACTOR - DONE RIGHT - ADD YOUR 2 CENTS

For me, the GT 350 should be what the GT500 is not. Affordable and available with an Automatic Transmission. By affordable I mean more than a GT and Less than A GT500, for arguments sake lets say around 32k-ish. What do I want for that $?
GT 350 appearance package (Stripes/Spoiler/Rolling Stock/Badging)
Unique motor setup (03/04 SVT Engine, N/A 5.4, 5.0 Boss/Hurricane)
MAKE AN AUTO TRANSMISSION AVAILABLE!!!
Call me crazy, but that would probablly do the trick for me.

Most likely will come out close to the GT500 msrp...But not more... If it was more money for less horsepower - who would buy it.. I personally hope they offer the 2003/4 Cobra 4.6 supercharged motor, no added expense to Ford or Shelby in development - it more than proved itself as a monster in the Cobra... It depends on what the car has and horsepower.... Randy

By the time I get all the toys, my GT/CS was 37K, I looked at the GT500, did anybody get one for under 50? My dealer had one 55K firm.
What I would like: a car that the Chevy and Dodge guys would look at and say " no way can I run that"

Bluejoker - I too would like to see the GT350 offered with a automatic transmission for that matter the GT500 also..... I might consider buying a GT500 in the second or possibly the third year of poduction IF they offered a automatic, instead of waiting a GT350....Mainly I would just like to see the GT350 offered... I WISH (hint-hint-hint) that Shelby/Ford would make general new statement stating that the GT350 WILL BE OFFERED (in a year or two) so we all can know that it's in the works.....Like they did with the Bullitt and the Boss.... Randy
My two cents
Randy - I'm not picking on you, I promise! That being said, please sit down and hold on to something very sturdy before reading any further. OK?
You ready?
The GT350 as we know and love it died after the 1966 model year. It became sick after the first 400 or so 1966 models. It is completely dead and can not be resurected as of now! This is sad, but true. I will tell you exactly why. As I understand it, Shelby's involvement with the Mustang came about to make a way to modify the car for racing - which it did very well. In 1965 and 66, Shelby American took a Mustang and made relatively simiple modifications to make it steer and handle better, stop better, and run faster. In those days, when you did such things to a Mustang, it could run with Corvettes and Jaguars and beat them - and it most certainly did! For its day, the GT350 was one hell of a road racer! Sadly enough, that was then, and this is now. The technology of the Corvette and Jaguar today is far and away superior to that of the current Mustang. That is just the way things happen over the span of 40 years! Today, you can't just make some relatively simple modifications and have the same relative capability as a road racer against a Corvette as in 1966. The time for such things has passed. In order to get to such a capability now, you have to move up to a Ford GT. Just about any reasonably priced GT350 will not be able to live up to its heratage. It will just carry its predecessor's name and designation. I know that this will not sit well with you, but as soon as you regain consiousness and breath normally, it will all sink in and you will feel better. In my book as well, this is sad, but true.
On the other hand, if the goal was to make somethin like a 67 or 68 GT500, then the current GT500 is just the ticket! It is everything that the earlier models were and even better! It is a very stylish car that gives great seat of the pants performance. Very few if any people ran a 67 or 68 Shelby on the track as a road racer as by this time the Shelbys were more for style. This they did well then and they do well now. The new ones match up to the old ones in heratage very well.
As for the GT350, about the best you can do is buy a 65 GT350 and a 65 Corvette and race them in vintage races. In this way you may always live in an era where the GT350 was the real King of the Road.
This is my two cents and you gel all you pay for.

That's the reason I prefer the 1966 GT 350 over the 1965.
As you stated, the 65 was built to race and lacked many of the amenities that buyers like for daily use.
The 1966 exhaust systems were changed to go out the rear of the car, the noisy Detroit Locker rear differentials were replaced with more traditional Ford ones. Battery was moved from trunk to the engine compartment, spare tire was moved from back seat area (65 didn't have a back seat) to the trunk. Rear seat was added. Front suspension was returned to factory settings with smaller traction bars. (Shelby Mustang: Racer for the Street, by Randy Leffingwell, pp 62-64)
In other words it was a more civilized/liveable GT 350. I think that type of GT 350 is doable, but IMO based on the Shelby GT pricing, a new GT 350 from Shelby autos will be priced in the $40K range.

Dear CrossBoss - Thank you much for your kind words - after many nasty replies to my postings over the last month on this site - honestly I expect nothing but the worse, but that is just fine - as I stated before people in my home state of Connecticut regularly treat each other like dirt sooo no big deal....
You basically showed me respect - and stated your view -which I respect.... That being said - let me just add the following... I owned a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 serial #459 (last three digits of serial #of build) for 10 years - it was a blast to own... It was a total piece of junk when I bought it - five years later - a show winner... I Loved That Car - it was- SPECIAL......... I KNOW that 1967-1970 Shelbys WERE NOT race cars... And when Shelby/Ford DO offer a NEW GT350 it will NEVER - EVER come close to being a Ford-GT, nor will it ever come close to being in the same class as that GM plastic car - thank god - because if that was the case- you and I could NOT afford to buy one... Mid $40,000 after taxes with no extras will be the max for me....
What I AM LOOKING FOR is a new Shelby GT350 road racer/street car to have FUN WITH and to be proud to own... Not a rough and tumble brute like the 1965 GT350.... I loved the lines of the 1967 Shelby it Is a piece of automotive art - by far the best looking car I have ever seen - period..... That is all I'm looking for - a born again modern 1967/2008 Shelby GT350 ...Yes I miss my youth spent with the car with stripes and scoops and I want to share that with my 8 year old son as he grows up - my love for Shelbys & Mustangs - for he WILL be getting my collection of cars when I think he's old enough ( when he's say 40 or 50 ha-ha-ha).... If I could afford to buy back my car #459 GT500 I would - but that car is NOW out of my reach - even if I could find it - it would be OVER $100,000.00 plus... For that price I could buy two new GT350s and go street racing in a few years - shhh with my son (just kidding law enforcement types)...
OK - I think everyone on this site knows of my dream car... Why don't I just buy a 2007 GT500? Well after owning a 67 GT500 and from everything I've read of the new ones - I know the car is a bit top heavy and very thirsty 13 mpg city - no thanks...The GT350 WILL BE a much better handling and better on the gas.... After about 3 years of production the GT500 will - pave the way for lower and lower mark ups on the dealers part as will the Shelby-GT, so by the time the GT350 comes along maybe after the first of production - I'm betting on buying at list price... Got my fingers crossed folks...
By the way - it was nice to see AMY state - W H E N the GT350 IS BUILT - SOOO it sound like their already a done deal.... Just a matter of when they will build it...Again - most likely as soon as the GT500 and Shelby-GT end production in another two years....
And by the way all - I promise no more b.s. of signing off with Mr. GT350, yes I liked it-it was fun - but the main reason I used it was JUST to bring the GT350 name to everyones attention... I know that Shelby, AMY and the powers that be at FORD regularly read threats and posting ON this and other sites.... And this site is a GREAT way of one to express your FREEDOM OF SPEECH - which I AM GRATEFUL to Brad the owner of this site for allowing us to do - thank you Brad.... I will be a force - a very polite pain in the butt - campaigning for this car to be built, I am not trying to offend anyone - trust me I'm not , but I will defend myself with humor & smart witts ( a new approach I hope others WILL try) not with negative vibes and insults - that is not my way...
And dispite any and all verbal mud ball tossed my way - I am having fun trying to convince all to build a new GT350... Because if your going to have a second coming of the GT500 ten years from now people will be saying - but what about the GT350??? Their IS A BIG VOID - I noticed it from the begining as soon as the GT500 was annouced..... RANDY

It seems to me that we need a dedicated GT350 forum. As much as I appreciate Randy's persistence and passion, this is the "Shelby GT" forum and discussion of the GT350 seems a bit off topic.
I am hoping to see lots of activity in this forum in the next week or 2 as we start receiving our new Shelby GTs.
respectfully,
Mark

Mark - THAT IS A EXCELLENT IDEA..... A idea that has been in the back of my mind for awhile.... Brad - IS that possible?????? Can we PLEASE have a NEW FORUM for the future (fingers-crossed) GT350????I think everyone on this site CAN SEE a NEED for a GT350 forum on a car that has NOT been annouced IS NOT offical - but ( thanks in a small part - to yours truely) is almost talked about as MUCH as the Shelby-GT... Strange - YES.....
Mark IS RIGHT - I HAVE BEEN off-topic for along time - which is not fair to the Shelby-GT fans and future owners - I AM SORRY I am NOT trying to steal their thunder - this is their time to shine.... I have been waiting for someone (like Mark) to make that exact point - thank you Mark - you made my point for me....
It is TIME for GT350 forum.........
Brad - Could you please post on this matter - or contact me by e-mail if you want a more private discussion on the matter...I think if you check my past postings you will find that this IS a very popular topic on the minds of many on your site... Mark IS RIGHT I have the "persistence and passion" for this topic - but the Shelby-GT forum IS the wrong spot.... Randy Anderson
If you ask me, the SGT bears striking resemblence to the GT-350, maybe not the same amount of power but visually it is pretty **** similar....
