Shelby GT teaser info from C&D

Just got my Car and Driver today and in it there is an article in which they rent and race the Shelby GT-H. In the article they quoted some very interesting info on the Shelby GT.

1. Price will be around $36,000.00
2. five speed and auto will be available. Auto will have 3:55's and the 5 spd will supposedly have 3:73's.
3. Colors will be black and white with silver stripes. They also mention the possibility of two other colors. Please make one Alloy!!!
4. Will be sold at dearlers that have met Shelby standards.
5. Additional Shelby authorized performance parts will be avail from a supercharger to rear spoiler.
6. 10,000 will be produced as long as there is demand.

On a side note, two of the editors John Phillips and Steven Cole Smith, state the Shelby GT-H is superior to the GT500 even with the power deficit. They go on to further say that the Shelby GT-H is, in a round about way, a real Shelby as it was modified at Shelby's facility whereas Ford's version (GT500) just licensed the name. Pretty harsh words.

That seems to imply the GT500 got the licensed Shelby name but in reality it is an SVT Mustang Cobra in disguise.

$36,000 Motor trend quoted 32,000 with an automatic bringing a manual right at $31,000. No an extra $10,000 over the price of a mustang gt for 25 extra hp and some stripes is not worth it.

My thoughts exactly. Even if it is true it still doesn't discredit the car and what it is. It's still an awesome performance machine and a step above the 03/04 Cobra.

The only way you're going to get a $10,000 difference is if you compare against a GT Deluxe without any options. That's hardly a legit comparison against a loaded Shelby GT. Try comparing it to a loaded GT/CS (which is what a Shelby GT starts life as before it gets the Shelby treatment) and the difference will be a lot smaller.

Hopefully one is blue (vista or windveil would look good with silver stripes)

"4. Will be sold at dearlers that have met Shelby standards. "

Great idea on this one. It should give some incentive to dealers that have sales people that dont know their a*s from their elbow about the cars they sell. Unfortunately, I wont be able to get one in Maine though as I havent met a sales person up here that know WTF the are talking about when it comes to the Mustang

When i went to my local Ford dealer (where i have been going for 15 years). I asked the owner about the Shelby GT. He said he allready sold the only two that had allready come in. DUH !!! so i had to spend the next 1/2 hour explaning what a Shelby GT was.

In my cartoon bubble, I see you sitting in the big man's (owner's) chair with him sitting across from you scratching his head!!!

Fritz, I went through a similar deal yesterday. The sales guy who thought he knew everything had this smug attitude and kept saying "I told you that is the GT500 and we already sold our 1 allocation". Finally another sales guy came over and jumped in as he had overheard our conversation. He had heard about it and told the jacka*s guy I was dealing with that is was the same as the GT-H and they were making it available for the public now. The jacka*s guy had a look on his face like he was eating glass. Funnt thing was I was there trying out their service department. I have been around and the dealers close to me suck. These guys were great service wise. Now if they could just teach an old dog new tricks they could sell more cars

Youve got to be kidding

On another note, I agree that the Shelby GT is more of a Shelby than the GT500.

At least there is no gas guzzler tax. Maybe I can put that money toward the blower option. (OH please have a blower option, I want to spank the GT500). I agree that this is more of a Shelby than the gt500.
