real horsepower
real horsepower
Does anybody know the real horsepower in these cars? I know they claim 319 or 320 , but i know ford claims less for advertising and insurance purposes. I just traded in my 05 gt, with x pipe, no cats, and borla mufflers and the car seems to be so much faster. I assume with no cats , and x and muffler, I had probably 315-320 hp. And this new shelby seems sooooo much faster. So do you guys know the real rating?
that really didn't answer my question. Forget the reasons I made up, i was just speculating, i know the mach 1s had more then 305 hp and the advertised it at 305. Does anybody know if there is more power there they then claim?
Thanks

It is probably fairly accurate. Figure this, the regular GT's are rated at 300hp. The only engine modification done by Shelby is a CAI and a tune right? We know from lots of Dyno time that those mods = about 20-30hp, depending on what intake and whose tune.
The tune used by Shelby is conservative, and would probably be on the low end of the HP spectrum for an intake/tune mod. That would place it in the ~20hp range.

The only thing we don't know for sure is if the regular GT's are underrated because I don't know of anyone who has done an actual engine dyno on a 05+ 4.6L. Chassis dynos are great, but they don't tell you exact crank HP because there is always loss involved in the drivetrain. How much loss?? We can make an educated guess, but are never quite certain until a back to back is done with engine/chassis dynos on the same engine.
The X pipe by itself probably does not add much...maybe 2-4 HP. The stock exhaust is very good by itself, H pipe included. It does more for the sound than HP. Going off road with no cats will add 10-13hp.
yeah, thats what i had on my last car, borla mufflers and an o/r x. sounded great, but after a while it got annoying and it rattled and there was droan. This car comes from the factory with an exhaust system,so I just plan to leave it stock.
The 319hp rating is the actual # detemined by the EPA monitored test and is not a SHelby or Ford claim. Therefore there is no need to speculate about the actual horsepower. It's 319. Before the test, SHelby and Ford had advertised it at 325. The test forced them to revise it downward.
