Just a warmed-over California Special!

Not impressed with <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">Shelby-</st1:City> why would <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Shelby</st1lace></st1:City> want to put his name on a car that’s nothing more than a warmed-over California Special Mustang?
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Just when Ford finally lost the cheesy (FAKE) hood and side scoops on the ’99 mustangs, there back on.

The Cal Special doesn't have any performance or suspension upgrades.

No offense, but I disagree. That is marketing . Straight out of the textbook.

It's like artificial limits on the number of widgets you can place in one order or buy at one time, it stirs up false impressions of exclusivity and specialness to crate a false sense of urgency to buy as much as possible as soon as possible.

This isn't a warmed over California Special. This is a Shelby. I guarantee you won't be able to find these on any dealer's lots, unlike the Cali Special. These will be waiting list only. So if you don't like them, that's good cuz there's plenty of us who will gladly sign up on a waiting list for one!

No offense taken.

But I disagree with your disagreement.

Everyone complains about the lagtime between any kind of new edition of the S197s (due to the 'standard procedure' that a huge company like Ford is locked into after all these years) so FINALLY the company tries to change the status quo after all these years by responding directly to customer requests with having a car out within just a few months (which could lay the groundwork for being able to do this with other new TRUE SEs) and they get slammed for this too.....

California special = cosmetic

Shelby GT = Performance/Handling

The Shelby GT is going to have a CAI, 3.73's, X pipe, Hurst Shifter, Lowering springs, Strut tower brace so how is this anything compared to a California Special?

A poll of who is crying about the Shelby GT and is actually interested in buuying a car should be started. That way those who really are going to buy a car and dont like it can cry away and those who arent and just have nothing better to do can find something else to moan about....

Good Point! I, for one, am buying a Shelby GT (I'm #1 on my dealer's list). And I'm not crying or complaining at all. I love this car. If I didn't, I sure wouldn't spend all my time on this site learning about it. I can't understand why people who don't like the car actually go to all the effort to get on these sites and complain. Don't they have a life???
I sure don't waist my time on Camaro or Charger websites. I don't like their cars, so why waste my time just to badmouth them??

I was out to the local dealer last Saturday. The folks out there seem to think that they will be able to mark the Shelby GT above MSRP, sort of like the GT500, only a smaller amount (Shelby GT- the poor man's GT500). This from a dealer that has a large number of 06's left (that don't appear to be moving), and has an 07 GT/CS marked down by $2500 from sticker, and a 07 GT $2600 off MSRP.

Here we are worried on content and pricing from FoMoCo and Shelby, and we still have to worry about the dealers!
