Just found out per my Ford Fleet manager the Shelby Gt is $7000 over base Mustang GT, so that piuts the car around 33 to 34 grand.

If the car MSRP's for 35k I simply think its not worth the money. I think the GT500 is worth every cent for MSRP. Also think the regular Mustang GT is. But if the Shelby GT goes for 35k, it will be a case of the Harley Davidson factor where someone is paying way too much for a name. BTW I think what Shelby has been doing is great, I hope they come up with more and more.

Ford had to pull teeth to get rights for the name on the '01 Bullitt, and this time Warner Bros. said "No". So don't hold your breath for a S197 Bullitt.

Couldn't agree more! I think that the Shelby GT will be a great car, however @ 35K, not worth the $!

Yes, the regular GT is a good value, especially since one can get one @ about 22K these days for a 2006 (remember when you couldn't get a deal on these!? =) remember that when thinking about buying a shelby today!).

And the GT500, this is what makes me say the Shelby GT is not worth it when one considers all the stuff the GT500 has compared to the Shel GT.

GT500 - completely different dohc 4v 5.4 motor w/Ford GT heads and a supercharger, Brembo brakes, different hood and facia, undercarriage/diffuser, suspension tweeks, completely different H/D
6 sp transmission, and 500 real hp.
I'm sure I've missed a few more things too.

Shel GT - same motor (sohc 3v 4.6) w/ throttle body and cold air intake +25hp, well done suspension mods (at least this one sits right!)
(BOTH cars have diff exhausts, wheels, and stripes etc)

With a roughly 7 grand difference between the cars, seems like one gets a whole lot of stuff that would cost a fortune to do to the Shel GT.
Tranny swap, 4-5K? Brakes 3K? new 5.4 engine w/ S/C 10+K?

So, BOTTOM LINE:

Shelby will produce the Shelby GT and sell it at 35K, and...

THE MARKET WILL DECIDE IF IT IS WORTH THE $!

WITH MANY POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES for cross shoppers (corvettes, mustang gt w/mods, GT500, camaro, challenger, M3, etc), we shall see!

I'm still glad that they are going to build it!

I agree it will be a nice car, but as I am coming into the market to purchase my next pony car I just don't think 35K for 325HP is a very good deal. By the time the "other" cars hit the streets we might be looking at 400HP for around $30K. It's kind of hard sitting on the sidelines, but I am going to be waiting through the Shelby GT until there is a better alternative.

I agree. What else can you get for $35K that has 325HP? A 300hp G35 is about $35K...

Your getting a little more than just the horsepower gain for the money. Remember your also getting the Ford Racing suspension pack, and also the GT/CS Bumber and the stripes already applied. The big thing is that your getting a WARRANTY with the Ford Racing Power Pack. Add this to your current GT and see if ALL Ford dealers will warranty those parts and anything connected to them should they cause incident.

Like I said before, the Shelby GT will be a nice car. I understand that the FRPP power packs are going on, but to me it's just a warmed over Mustang GT with a 7,000 dollar premium. I don't consider warranty an issue because everyone mods their cars.

All I am saying is that for 30K dollars the Camaro will pack a better punch. Or put in other terms: It's money better spent.

You can have the Shelby in a few months or wait a few years for the Camaro. Expect big ADMs when the Camaro is first released (we are all familiar with that subject). With everything considered, you may never see a 325+ hp Camaro for less than 35K.

Previous generations of the Camaro were priced slightly higher than the standard Mustang GT. The SS models were more for sure.

But I am not here to start at debate the Mustang vs. the Camaro.

I do like the Mustang, I just think it will be smart to wait this one out.

Does anyone remember what the newest GTO cost?, and it died a quick horrible death! Performance means nothing if it looks like an import and cost more than its worth!!

Steve, I'll address the warranty issue 1st. It has already been stated on the forums that some owners of S-197 Mustangs that have mods dome to them, have had issues taking their cars in for service. I remember reading in a CAI thread that a dealer wouldn't warranty an individual's car just because he wanted to install a CAI WITHOUT a tune! The Shelby comes with a CAI and a tune, and will be warrantied by all Ford dealers. This to alot of people is value for the money.

And now I'll address the Camaro comment. If you feel like waiting almost 2 years for the Camaro, be my guest. While your waiting, I'm sure that there are many on here who would take a Shelby instead right now. Plus, like the others said above me, if you think that you will be able to buy a Camaro with over 300 hp for under $30K, your nuts. How much was the 1st GTO with 350 hp? About $32 to $33K. And how did that car go over, I forget?......That's right, it died!!!

BTW, why bring up the Camaro anyway? Since by the time that car actually hits the market, you know for darn sure that Ford will have a few tricks up its sleeve to keep the Mustang ahead of the competetors.
Can someone say 350-400 hp from a N/A V8! I think I can.

I am seriously thinking about the Shelby GT instead of the GT500 because of the routing that is going on at dealerships. My biggest question is....are the stripes painted or are they vinyl? I haven't seen an answer to this question yet.

If they are painted, I am sold....if they are vinyl, I won't buy it unless there is a stripe delete option. If there isn't a strip delete then I may try to make a military purchase while I am overseas...I heard that the military can get most vehicles for invoice plus delivery for military members through the exchange. They even have the car delivered to your home. An old pobb of mine did this with a Harley....he got home from Iraq and had his new baby sitting in the garage waiting for him....a $33,000 bike for 24k or something along those lines.

I know that there is a new Mustang coming.. That is why I am on this site (it's the only place for the 09+ cars.) I am sorry if I offended any of you, but I like to shop around and there is nothing wrong with that. Sorry if that bothers you.

The new Shelby GT will help pull some of the pressure off the GT500, which should make the 500HP car more easy to purchase. That is a good plus. And hey, who knows maybe the S/C option will really turn the car into a fire breathing corner carver that I am looking for?

I dont recal the thread necro but I seem to recall Amy alluding to the fact of vinyl stripes. I will look through and see if I can spot it.

n3cr0mncr, the release pics all show vinyl stripes. You can tell by the way they don't go into the licence plate recess in back, or up against the third brake light or decklid badge. Also, why would they not paint the lower area under the front bumper? They're vinyl. If there isn't a delete, which would surprise me, you can delete them easily yourself with a hair dryer and some careful peeling. Either way, the car will still look great. Painted stripes would add a lot to the MSRP.

In answer to people paying at or near MSRP on GT500's - I do know of one in the Tampa area that sold for $45k - deal made well in advance of release and honored by dealer. I've heard of up to $59k on others.

Most people who mod their cars, even the 05 and up, are not too worried about warranties. Since Ford is willing to put these parts on the Shelby GT and warranty them, it may in fact help those of us with mods on our GTs and V6's - at least simple mods like exhaust and CAIs....
