Winter's a comin
I don't have much choice - no room for another vehicle. I'm gonna have to drive the 07 CS this winter. So...what is everyone doing for snow tires. I see on Tirerack.com that you can get a Winter "Tire and Wheel" package for around $1300 (W/ 17" & TPMS). I'm sure there are better deals out there, and I'm pretty sure at least one of you will be in the same boat as me.
Any issue with switching back and forth each winter from 18" to 17"?

I'm in the same boat and I have no idea what I should do. Do I really need to get winter tires? Someone told me not to drive the car for any reason in the snow. Ugh!!! Guess it's gonna be my Mom's Saturn ION this winter. Thankfully she lives in the same house. (in my house that is - I don't still live with my MOM) LOL

Lucky for me I only drive a few miles to work each day. We dont get that much snow on the floor in the city, but (knock on wood) we have been known to get a few feet once in awhile. I will be driving mine through the winter also. If its real bad I might buy a cheap (1K) truck to smash through the snow.

Get a winter beater!! 1k -1500 should get you thro the winter. Mine is garaged thro the winter. Not allowing salt to touch it as well as all the other harmful stuff out there(other drivers).

Don't want to spend the $1300 right now so I'm going to have 18 inch studed tires put on all around.
Did this to my 89 and it drove thru the snow and ice just great.
As far as swiching from 18s to 17s - I don't see that as a big issues - looing at doing that myself.
Thanks

A Ford Family Option?
Was planning on driving the old truck around again this winter. But wait! Had CalStang in for some front suspension checks at my local Performance Ford Dealership and my First Lady is over on the new truck lot, pricing a new white and gray Ford Sport Track 4x4. Shes thinking of possibly trading up before ol' Man winter arrives here. If she gets it, maybe she will let the StangNut borrow it for errands and getting around in the snow?

I bought a set of 17" take offs when I got my car. Mounted up Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3's. They work great, this will be the 3rd season for them and look like they should last 5,6 winters. In the summer I dismount 2, and mount up the drag radials. Nothing like having 10 tires for the car, lol.
Who else has had 16 different tires on their mustang, lol. 4-O.E.s sold, 4-summer tires + 2 were replaced, 4 snow tires, 2 drag radials.
Thank god I work at Goodyear!

Get a set of take-off 17" rims and put the blizzaks on, if you don't want to title / insure / and drive a beater. I have two Mustangs and both are stored neatly since about 10:00 A.M. today. I have a 1995 Subaru Legacy (actually nice car - worth about 4K) and I just picked up a 1991 S10 for $500. You can get a "runner" for about $600 which is less than wheels and tires for your Stang. All you need is 5 months of service from your "winter" car.
I suggest you get something cheap and then sell it to some H.S. kids in spring for $200. Kids love to tinker on junk and then they can take it to the junkyard and get their $40 out of it.
Good Luck,
Shaun

The Sport TRAC is a decent rig. I have an '01 with 104k miles on it. I'd get a newer one, but I don't like that they don't have the 'filler' panel behind the rear seat for my dogs.
And winter is what they have up in Tahoe for the next several months. That's why the Mustang's down the hill and the Sport Trac is up at the Tahoe house now. In fact, I think I'll just leave it up there from now on... In the summer, that house can be my 'Official Ford Storage Facility'.

OK. So after looking around for several weeks, I ended up at www.discounttiredirect.com and purchased a set of Replica 17x9 wheels and the 245/55R Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 ($174/ea). Total price (shipping, mounting and balancing were free) was $1008.00.
Well the day before they arrived, I looked at their website and saw that the Wheels price dropped from $78 each to $60! I called them right after UPS left to see if I could get an adjustment. Can't hurt to try, right? Sure enough, they are crediting my CC $72.00 - so now the final grand total is $936.00.
I won't have time to put them on until Friday, but I'll post some pics so you guys can see how they look. For 60 bucks, I think they look pretty nice. They even have a snake on the center cap.
FYI...I didn't get the TPMs. I figure I can hit the reset button for a couple months and instead, sunk that few hundred dollars into better tires (I originally was going to get the Hankook Icebears 235/55R).
So far, I'd say the discounttire experience has been awesome. I talked to them twice on the phone: once to order and the second to request the adjustment. I say "so far" only because I don't have them on the car yet. More to come....

I didn't know our Mustangs had heaters! I don't think I've ever used it. As far as I'm concerned windshield wipers could have been an option since I have used them about twice in the 2 1/2 years I've owned the car!
There is one thing that I know works and that is the air conditioner!
