What performance mods are you planning

for your GT/CS?

I'm really debating adding an SC - perhaps even the Rousch unit installed by Ford - so it's covered under warranty.

Mods on my '05 GT are:

1. JLT CAI/Xcal Tune combo
2. Steeda ud pullies
3. Magnaflow axleback exhaust
4. Steeda Strut tower brace
5. Redline hood struts

I'll probably keep all of the above mods and either sell them (if I go with the SC) or reinstall in the GT/CS. I've been away from the boards for a while - what are the newest/latest/greatest mods out there now? I'll check out the performance section as well - just looking for your opinions.....

Wink

Stock, no way. I have on order some JBA LTH, cats, C&L Intake setup and probably a TB from BBK, along with a good tune. I want to add some better supension pieces, but I really don't want to lower more then an inch. Ford Racing has a nice setup, but claims it lowers it 1.5 inches. I may use there setup and get the H&R Sport Spings which lowers it just 1 inch. I plan on keeping all the parts I take off.

Hey every little bit helps I'm still debating adding the SC....really leaning that way - but if I do I'll probably keep it conservative and get the Roush unit with warranty and keep it in the 5lb boost range....checked out a post in the performance mods forum yesterday about a kit Saleen was offering to up the Roush unit another 30hp w/o increasing boost levels....may have to check into that as well.

SC is a big step

but i would go the way your going i'll go with the least amont of boost.I just dont want to do anything that is going to harm the engine,im sure it could handle alittle more boost but i wont take the chance. im going to do my first oil change(200 miles)i want to see these metal shavings people are talking about. i found someone on the board that lives around my way,so hopefully he can help me out with some mods.

I hear you - I don't want to be grenading my engine either. Curious about the metal shavings...I changed the oil at 1Kmiles on my '05 and it was very clean and absent any shavings - I thought that Ford must flush out the blocks before assembling the engine....now on my sportbike on the 1st oil change there was TONS of metal shavings - which is normal for a sportbike for some reason

I like the ud pullies - even though they are a bit pricey at $250.00 (approx) for the modest hp gains (4-8hp IIRC)....it's really the "feel" of the engine revving quicker that I really like.....I've had the Steeda ud pullies on my '00GT and my '05GT and have never had any issues with them. My new GT/CS (on order) is going to get them as well.

I installed both sets myself and it's not too bad....IIRC you will need a harmonic balancer puller (AutoZone will loan you the tool), patience and when reinstalling the pully bolt there is a sequence you should follow for the torque down process....it's all covered in the instructions...but if you don't have any experience with it - might be a good idea to have an experienced friend over to help....you could always pay to have it done - but for me half the fun of mods is installing them yourself and learning as you go.

I am getting the FRPP intake and having the dealer install, Ford parts installed by Ford people, no warrenty issue. Why get an intake and not tune for it? CAI changes a lot of things, might as well get the full benefit from it by tuning. IMO.

Unless you are going the SC route - the intake and tune are DEFINTILY worth the investment!! Even though they may add only between 20rwph and 35rwhp (depending on the combo) you really can feel the diff....combined with ud pullies your engine feels "alive"...I'd definitly do it again and if I don't go the SC route with my new GT/CS I will do the CAI/Tuner again!!

Having the dealer install a cold air kit. They say for 2007, it requires a chip change, and the chip is specific to the vin of the car. Is this BS, and the dealer is just buying time, or is this true?

While I don't have my '07 yet - I can speak to the '05 and you don't change out the "chip" any longer - what you do with the tuner is to: 1) upload the factory (stock) tune into the tuner then, 2) download the tune of your choice (most tuners come with an 87, 91, and 91 torque tune) into the computer via the OBD port that is located under the dash near the driver's right knee. Very easy and if you ever want to go back to stock - you simply reverse the process. Most tuners will allow you to update their tunes via download from their website or e-mail.....really pretty slick

The tuner does lock onto your vehicles VIN or HEX code (unique to each vehicle) so you can't use a single tuner on multiple vehicles at the same time - for example - if you wanted to try your tune on a friend's Stang - you would have to return your vehicle to stock tune 1st.....it's to prevent consumers from buying a single tuner and "sharing" it.

Interesting. Dealer said there was a new process for 07. Don't know if its fact or just dealer BS, for the car isn't ready for delivery yet.

I didn't get the exhaust system, cause no one at the dealer could tell me if it increases HP at all. Anyone know, or am I better with aftermarket exhaust?

Any other easy HP increasing tricks for these cars? Am only familiar with the older Ford stuff. FE's, etc.
