Ticking Noise
Ticking Noise
Has anyone else noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine? Turn the radio off, I know it's hard to do, listen while in drive at idle. Mine was an intermittent ticking, but now it's pretty much all of the time. It sounds kind of like how an older car's valves tick.
Is your GT totally quiet? I've heard that it could be the injectors...but that doesn't sound right. I took it to the dealer and nobody know why, but one of the service manager's GT does the same thing.

That kind of ticking I thought you left the turn indicator on ! actually for every GT that I have heard running I can hear that, it bothered me up untill right now that I seen this post so I will ask to see what they say ? I had it on my 05 GT it seem to soften in time.
Any votes for "injectors", "valves", "other"?
I have offen seen a length of PVC pipe used for this. Hold one end up to your ear and place the other end on various parts of the engine to narrow down where the sound is coming from.
I've used a big screwdriver in the past with same results, but I want something flexible and a lot safer than a screw driver or a pipe.
Besides a cold start-up knock (that Ford says is normal) my '05 GT also had a warm engine tick. They replaced the "Phaser" bolt, it has something to do with the VCT. There is a TSB on it, but it was just for early '05 builds. I hope my '07 GT/CS won't have these problems (knock on wood).

My 07 GT has it on both sides of the engine. My first thought was that it's the OHC and Valves and lifter setup location in the engine compared to a pushrod engine (this is my first modular). The car runs fine and it only has 2000 miles on it so it will probably quiet in time with wear so I've been paying it no mind.
