IF adding a Stars & Stripes or any new Grill Pony on a 05-08
FYI: Installed new S&S grill pony today on "CAL". Nice mod, but instructions were weak to say the least! Says: Remove grill, install pony, re-install grill. This could be a bear, trying to release the 8 grill retaining clips with a long flat screwdriver while the grill is still on the Stang! Anyone that wants to add a nice new grill pony, realize that the easiest way to do this, (Per FoMoCo Bull.#501-19-1&2) is just remove the front bumper cover (some work) from the Stang. Then use needle nose pliers to remove the four push retainers, then exchange the grill ponies, re-install retainers and the front bumper cover. We had to remove this bumper cover anyway, to clean and polish everything in there, for displaying this new Stang. This is a little bit of time to do, but may save you on this kind of stuff gang ! Additional pix, nose drop and S&S Pony install
Okay Gang! First pix went and opened! Additional pix show Stang nose apart in the shop. Plus S&S Pony installed in the grill. Note the cut foam pads, fabbed and placed on the upper radiator shield push pin mount points. These pads will cut down the vibration noise and tighten the panel up, as it should have been from FoMoCo. Also we put in some very narrow foam strips between upper radiator shield front edge and top of the grill piece grove when we did the reassembling. No more grill movement in here ether! Nice fix, if anyone cares to detail this sloppy stuff on your Stang? Click on Pix to enlarge! Hope someone can use these tips!! "RC"

No Worrys!!
No worrys kids! CalStang is now all put back together and cruising out on the streets. Showing off the new S&S grill pony. CalStang only had about 400 miles on it when we took the nose off for this change. Better half says, "Only the car nuts do this stuff"! I said "You are correct Babe"! Alls well here again!! Rear suspension and driveshaft upgrades next.

Next time ask first!! Lot of knowledgable folks here. She looks great. Sorry for all the work you had to do just to remove four snaps. Anyway, now you know how to do a lot of stuff other's don't. The pictoral is great.

No Tom. Just relax. Full Frontal removal is NOT required, only suggested. A little patience, a pick, eyeglass flathead screwdriver, and needlenose pliers is all it takes. It's true you have the room to work with, but it can, and has, many a time, been done.

Follow up S&S Pony Install
Dave: Went to your photo site and must say you have a very nice Stang and mods!! On installing a grill pony. Did not want people to think that the way that we did the install, is the most correct way for all. At our shop we are building and tearing down things all the time, so dissassembly just seemed the natural course of modification. Note that the covered car in the back ground is a '55 Belair 2-door post street rod that we are now doing some new engine upgrades on. This GT/CS is my personal show/pleasure car and is getting detailed to a point of painting, polishing and then hand detailing the whole factory underside, suspension etc. FoMoCo forgot to paint a lot of stuff down under there! So needless to say lots of parts are being removed, detailed and reinstalled. I know. Its sick overkill Huh! Our future Stang mods will be all about speed and power. Just about looking pretty(sleeper)stock when your smokem, is the current plan!! Future ideas? Saleen VI Supercharger etc.

Hey RC. I understand totally where your coming from there. When I took appart mine to do the headlight buckets, I was amazed/agast as to how little paint FORD actually used under there. Also, on another note, I have a 64 T-Bird, all over the place, in my gargages, as I'm doing a resto on it. Sure is interesting what you discover when you start the disassembly process. I'm driving my wife nuts. Just got my SHR Loovers, so now the Interior of the Stang is all over the place too. (Hey, at least she knows where I am)

The grille DOES come off, just needs some patience and 2 long flat head screwdrivers (thats what i used). Those clips (7 of them I believe) just need to be coaxed a bit to come off. One screwdriver pries the slot and the other pushes the clip down. Then they SNAP back into place. I replaced my entire grille with the Shelby-GT grille.
The modifying however took a bit longer...

Nice grill change!!
Ian: I must say, that Shelby grill sure looks hot!! Any ideas about running some different fogs down where the lower grill panels are? A very sweet grill change! P.S. We had tried the long screwdrivers way, but this was just too much of this stuff for us. And we did not want to distort the white grill tabs on this new show Stang.

Thanks man. She gets lots of looks and stares for sure. It was a bit of a chore but well worth the scraped knuckles.
I have thought of the lower fogs, but more like this:
In those holes on the lower valance. Then without the grille insert below.
I must say whenever I see a white GT/CS makes me want one. You've some beauty on your hands.
