GT/CS's and all S197's with Custom Car Covers
If you have a custom car cover on your Mustang GT/CS or any other S197, or just want quick easy antenna removal, this just may interest you? On the CalStang, every time we have to cover or uncover the car, you have to go to the tool box and get the old 10MM box wrench out to remove or install the black antenna. Other than being a real pain every time, this process can and will eventuality leave a nice wrench wear mark (ouch!) on the hex area at the antenna's bottom!
So we thought this over, for an easier way to to fix this antenna chore! And this is what we came up with. As a no cost change for our fellow interested Stanger's!! Perhaps you could also us a black rubber o-ring gasket, but believe this might be a little too thick and round, to look just right?
Took some 4.0MM black rubber vacuume hose and using an very sharp xacto knife, sliced off about about a 3/32" little doughnut from the end. Next twisted this piece up the thread and shaft mount bottom end of the Mustang antenna. This is a pretty tight fit, just take your time. If you use any larger sized tubing, it will push out too far on all sides when you install and tighten the antenna. Lastly using your hands only, install the antenna on the car and twist it very firmly, just thumb tight! The doughnut expands to the same size as the base under compression and looks completely stock! It holds on very tightly and also keeps any water out of the antenna base unit. Now a chore made: Easier on and Easier off!! And remember also. If they want it, they will take it anyway!! Hope someone out there, might be able to use this one, if this is a problem for you! I have a short antenna from UPR and I just hand tighten it and remove it when I install the cover. I've done this my past three stangs and never had a problem.
