GT/CS visits the Outer Banks

We took a one week trip to the Outer Banks last week and stayed in Buxton by the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. It was 558 miles from our home in western NC so we never left NC. We averaged 24.3 mpg of regular fuel at an average of $4.25 per gallon. Excellent weather for most of the trip with high humidity along the coast as the only negative. We stayed at a cottage with a wonderful view of the Atlantic. One of the homes is about to see it's demise. Several homes were lost just last week. We visited 4 lighthouses and enjoyed our drives along the coast. Each photo has a little description underneath. I'll post a few more photos later.

We stayed at this cottage which had 3 levels

Our view from the balcony.

Cape Hatteras lighthouse

Bodie lighthouse

Currituck lighthouse

New bridge built in 2019 after a hurricane

Many sand dunes along the road.

The 1 hour ferry to Ocracoke Island

On the ferry

Ocracoke lighthouse

Thanks! It's what life is all about for us. Every year of our marriage we have made sure to take a trip to somewhere. Only 2020 was missed due to Covid. We had to cancel that one. 44 trips out of 45, not bad. That doesn't even count the mini-trips.

Also thanks for sharing those awesome photos of your trip to the Outer Banks.. They bring back so many great memories for my wife and I when we were last there back in 2003..
Hopefully we'll revisit there someday soon

A few more. We started off each day with these Duck donuts that are made fresh after you order them. Only takes a few minutes. Some more signs and sites along the coastal road.

In my best Homer Simpson voice... "Mmmmmm Donuts".

Reminds me of trips we have taken to small towns along the Oregon coast on US Route 101. Looks like a great trip!.

This is very cool!

Thanks for sharing and what an awesome way to celebrate each year together. Hmm, I might have to borrow this idea!

Thanks again

Geez, still trying to lose the pounds. Besides the donuts, too much fried food and pub food.

Great guess! Yes, one was Shepherd's Pie and the other was Cottage Pie. One is made with ground lamb and the other ground beef. A few other differences as well. I forgot now which was which. Sorry.... My wife and I split them to taste the differences just for fun. Both excellent but WAY too much food! English pub food isn't for everyone but we like trying them out.
