It's hard liking something this much...(Part 2)
It's hard liking something this much...(Part 2)
So I got my car back from the body shop on a Friday (3/30). Got the dent out, mirrors painted and fresh new wax job--looking better than I'd ever seen her. The night before, I switched to a different insurance company, paid the down payment by EFT.
On Thursday morning (4/5), around 3am, some ********* smashes their drunk *** into my car, backs up and takes off. HIT-N-RUN. By the time I get outside, they're gone, but I hear the sound of their stuck horn in the distance. Unfortunately, they were driving in the direction of a huge park and low income housing neighborhood. I was so out of it, it didn't register that maybe I should follow the car that hit me. As for my car, the driver side front bumper, fascia and headlight are all smashed in. I had the parking brake on, but the car was still pushed back about 1.5 - 2 ft.
I called 911, and they told me that since there was only property damage, I would have to file a police report at the local precinct. Fortunately, my neighbor (who works for 911 dispatch) found a piece of the perp's bumper sitting by the curb. Since this is considered suspect-evidence, the cops came out. According to her, were it not for this broken piece, the cops wouldn't even bother showing up. Cops show up, take info and hand me case number.
Next, I called my insurance company and filed a claim. They took FOREVER to get back to me. They stated someone would be in contact within the next 24 hours--nobody. So I call back and they say that my down payment is being verified prior to any action being taken on my claim. Fine, I understand--no payment, no insurance. Three days later, still no call from them, so I decide I'm going to call everyday until something happens.
Monday morning (4/9), I called to find out that my claim is "currently being reviewed by underwriting to make sure everything is in place--since the policy is so new". Translation: My claim/insurance policy has been red-flagged for insurance fraud and is under investigation.
Tuesday morning (4/10), insurance co confirms fraud investigation and accident report with police. Acct Rec is still attempting to verify my down payment has cleared. The called concluded with a "you should receive a call from us within 24 hours"--riiiight.
Wednesday, I'm told payment confirmation can take up to 10-15 business days. great.
Thursday, I called during Acct Rec business hours and square away the payment info.
Friday, tow truck picks up my car, but delivers it to the Ford service center that's 1 block away from the body shop. I go down there and drive the car to the body shop myself. Unfortunately, since it's Friday and the adjuster just got notice, they may not be able to assess until Monday at the latest.
Monday (4/16), the adjuster contacts me, goes out to the body shop and I get a call from the body shop letting me know they will be starting work on my car...
