Let's fastforward to September 2008. The 2009 GT500 will be coming and we'll have the KR and Super Snake. With prices for a 2007 Cobra nudging closer to MSRP now, what do you think the price for a used, low mileage (under 10,000 miles) 2007 Cobra will be? I'm hoping around $35K. What do you think?

 

Assuming most NEW GT500s are at MSRP in the country, I think that could be reasonable to think. If they are still bringing markup at dealers, I cant think used ones would be any different.

 

I would guess it'll be a while longer than September. As it is, many owners trying to sell their used GT500s are having a difficult time finding buyers since many would be in the red by selling so soon after paying high prices and are not likely to ponder the idea of paying to sell. Also the fact that not too many people are likely to even pay the original MSRP for a used GT500 might make owners keep theirs a while longer than expected. Making matters worst for the sellers will be when new GT500s start selling at MSRP.

I was thinking that if the 09 GT500 was going for around MSRP that an 07 would surely be somewhere in the 35K range. After all, who would pay 45-50K for a two year old, used one when you could get a brand new one for MSRP (whatever that happens to be in 2009, but probably not more than 50K).

As you can probably imagine, i'm itchin' to get my hands on one...but I'll gladly drive my 06GT w/CAI & tune for a few years until I can get the cobra.

 

Time will tell.

 

Don't assume. On the west coast the GT 500's are still bringing 10-15k over.

No, they aren't. Dealers START at $15k over in negotiation but you can get them to $5k over with no trouble. $5 over in San Diego is the average SALE price right now. Asking price doesn't mean squat.

My local dealers are still at 15 - 20K over sticker....been sitting in the showroom a while...

 

Not in Simi Valley/Thousand Oaks area you can't....I keep tabs on them and the SV Ford dealer stated he wouldn't take a nickle under 17 over...I almost laughed in his face...but he's the one paying flooring costs on the GT500...not me. For someone who really wants a GT500 $5K over on an '08 isn't a bad deal at all.

 

Well that is odd, I had a guy call me from San Diego last week and he said that he can't find anything under 15k over.

 

I almost signed a deal at Mossy Ford for $5k over on an 07' Alloy coupe 2 weeks ago. Paperwork was done and common sense took over. I'm paying MSRP.

Are you guys simply calling around saying "how much"? I go into the dealership ready to buy with check in hand when I negotiate.

 

I've called and made offers willing to provide a deposit contingent on receiving an email confirming the particulars of the possible agreement. I've had three dealers willing to sell for $5K over but not willing to negotiate beyond that point. It seems to be their last hurrah.

 

It seems feasable... Maybe not in some areas where they are still selling well... Have you checked kbb.com lately? I just looked up a used 2007, retail value, and it was over 65K (with 1000 miles on it)...

 

KBB matters little at this point. I can't see how anyone would pay more for a used GT500 when new ones are available for a lot less. Besides, there might be other than financial reasons why a months old car is up for sale. That is a thought most informed and realistic potential buyers will not ignore.

Those selling used best wait to have the money in their pockets before they pop the cork.

It makes a case for not counting chickens before they hatch, doesn't it?

 

Sorry, I was referring to jpro's post. As in yes it is feasible that pricing for a used car could be down around 35K unless it is in an area where "big money" can still afford to pay 55K for a used one... You may not see that KBB matters in your area but in my area they are still selling for rediculaous amounts. That is why I drove 700 miles to buy mine...

 

After the first 45K (plus tax/GGT and license) the next 5K for ADM is noise in my opinion.
