...you got to check out all the posts on this thread on the challenger forum. I guess their srt-8 version will only be the 425hp 6.1,and not the 6.4l 500hp motor. Its funny as they are nervous about our car the Shelby GT500. If the torque matches the hp it will be more than enough. I believe IRS is part of the plan. If so, it will not be chicken feed, it would be a very worthy competitor.

That's a long way from conclusive proof that no higher horsepower models will be built.

Thats true, but I highly doubt any model they built will be $1,000 bucks in mods away from 650+ rear wheel horsepower.

You got that right!! Very well put!! They'll never have the hp and torque with a high compression non-blown(s/c) motor without spending huge amounts of money,....where ours have easy mods of change of pulley, exhaust and tune and we have 600+ hp

I just think it's funny that these guys have this pipe dream about the 6.4L 500hp motor. You think DCX would build something that close in contention with the Viper? It's just like the Chevy, OR Ford guys who think Ford will drop these amazingly powerful motors that would make the cheaper car perform better than the more expensive ones.

I know what you mean, its kind of like us getting our 5.4L s/c motor with near 500hp for our GT500, just at the same time a "somewhat" similar engine in what the Ford GT has, and the GT is getting cancelled. I do believe they have it all worked out when models get released and cancelled, just in time that one high hp motor in a less expensive model, doesn 't conflict with a higher priced model with somewhat similar horsepower. bullitt - that'd be interseting to see how they set up IRS and what sort of success they have with it (if it's used at all)....perhaps push the Mustang team into pursuing it again.......

Trust me on this. Any car which has the combination of 400 plus hp/torque and IRS will give any of us a happy face not to mention a newly found manhood. I used to dress in drags (with red high heels I might add ) until I got the Cobra. Now I look like the Incredible Hulk. But, if the track is what those Challanger boys are crying about then they are right, the more the merrier.

The challenger srt-8 version better have the 500 hp 6.4l version,..because the 6.1 (425hp),non-aspirated motor with IRS(heavy)will not cut it against the new (close to 500 hp and torque)Shelby GT500!!

Mind you, I could be wrong, but, nevertheless, I have the feeling that the Corvette Z06 is the first nail in the Viper's coffin. The 8.3L V-10, the benchmark powerhouse a decade ago, is closely-matched by the LS-7, which is also more practical in terms of weight and fuel economy.
If Ford makes the Shelby Cobra Coupe (GR-1 concept) a reality, I think the Viper's days will be numbered, unless Chrysler decides to go ahead with the Firepower! concept...

Regardless of what they decide to put into the Challenger, that is one beautiful ride! That front end would look sweeeeeeeeeet in the rear view mirror of the Shelby

It's no pipe dream,..heck dcx has got the 505hp srt-10 viper motor in the dodge srt-10 truck,..and it doesn't threaten the viper sales as they're 2 different kinds of vehicles with the same motor...same for the challenger and viper,2 completely different vehicles!!
