Exactly, they're obviously talking about Ol' Shel...

In all seriousness, they're just cashing in on the mental connection people make. "Cobra" is officially and legally absent from the " Ford Shelby GT500" name.

That relates to the origins of the emblem.

Did you see "Cobra" anywhere on that site?

IMHO people who believe that the GT-500 will be worth more because of the Shelby name are kidding themselves. The 2007 GT-500 is a vehicle that is completely developed by Ford and manufactured by Ford on the same assembly line that makes all other Mustangs. The "Shelby" name is stuck on it by the marketing department. Shelby had little (if anything) to do with the development of the GT-500.

It is nothing like the original GT-350s & GT-500s which were made by Shelby from partially assembled Mustangs. The reason why the original Shelbys were and are so valuable is because of Shelby Amerian's racing success at that time (mid 1960s). But that was 40 years ago and really means nothing in the automotive business today.

If you want to get right at it, the GT-500 / Shelby name is aimed squarely at affluent baby boomers who are looking for ways to recapture their youth as they slide into retirement.
I think you are kidding yourself. I have seen very few Jags around N Texas, 1 Ferrari, no TVRs, no Aston Martins, and no Ford GTs. In this town of some 100000, there are maybe 7 2005/6 GT Mustangs. Its highly unlikely I will see a 2007, or 2008 Shelby on the streets here. Believe it or not, doesnt much matter, but the bulk of the new Shelbys will see little if any street time. They are collectors cars already and not even in production yet. Fords statement "Anyone who wants one will get one" is a pipedream, or an outright lie. The last couple of years or the original Shelbys werent built by Shelby, but Ford. The are very pricey in restored condition.
If you think the Shelby name doesnt mean anything any more, let me know about it say 10 years down the line.

To answer the original question, Shelby hands down. I am from the generation that grew up with the original Mustangs. From 1974 to 2004, There were no Mustangs that filled me with a consuming desore to own one, no not even the SVT Cobra, though it is an awesome car. Say Shelby hadnt reunited with Ford, and this new Mustang was a 2007 SVT Cobra, it wouldnt have near the appeal to me. Same thing if Ford comes out with a new Bullit. It was a great movie, but a Bullit Mustang just doesnt do anything for me.
Give me a Shelby, or a BOSS, Mach 1, give me a COBRAJet! Those names mean something to me, though only on a pre 74 Mustang or this new generation, that looks like a Mustang should.

Actually the 68, 69 & 70 Shelby Mustangs were neither built by Shelby nor Ford. They were assembled by A.O. Smith Company.
