I won't be looking to buy until next fall (read fall 2007) and by then I'm sure the mark-up will be non-existent to gone.
Also, one other question: What happened to "It defintely starts at under 40K" -- which we all took to mean 39.9K ... now its 42K start and 47K as tested? Please ...
The GT is looking better and better.

If I remember correctly, this car put up like 650RWHP with an aftermarket tune and a slight boost increase..
This means, in factory off the showroom floor trim, tunning another 100RWHP to the rearwheels should remove some time off the ET..
LOL!! If its at 13.1 now, have Doug904 create a 650RWHP tune, and your spanking the vettes..
I mean lets really look at this in depth.. 13.1ET off the showroom floor.. Most GT's in stock trim are 13.5ET.. They have to actually buy a few bolt ons to lower this somewhat..
This car actually can have another tune created and a boost increase.. The Motor should be good for no less than 1000HP easily..
LOL!! When you really look at this, Ford is doing a good job of concealing the truth here.. They allowed this pathetic info to come out.. Wait till someone here gets his mitts on it, and doug904 has an opportunity to place it on his dyno! LOL!!
Basically this review is good enough to trim the fat off some of the enthusiast driving up the price.. This way, more people will get it for $40k..
When your bargaining with the dealer, you now can use this article to get the price you want.. Once you take it home, order a 650 or 700RWHP tune, and bring home the trophy!! LOL!

The sad part...
I built my Mustang GT premium package with my dealer and drove away with Tax for $31,705.00 in Los Angeles.
I have changed out ALL(20) of the suspension parts recommended for better street performance by Saleen, Steeda and BMR. These include welded parts.
I have put on the StopTech 4 piston 2 disc 14" Brake upgrade for the front, with better pads and breaklines in the rear.StopTechs are more correctly balanced for the 06 Mustang GT ABS then Brembo.
I have the Saleen series VI supercharger, 39lb injectors, 90mm mass air kit, 3.6 pully(8.5psi) with proper tune putting down 452rwhp/420rwtrk for 490 flywheel hp and 476 flywheel trk. The even pull allows for the stock fuel pump, clutch, pistons and rods to remain. My 0-60 is 4.1 or 4.2 seconds.
Staggered 18" chrome bullitt wheels with 285/40/18 and 255/45/18 Bridgestone Potenza's RE050A tires.
Any number of simple chin spoilers, cowled hoods, and rear spoilers could make my car more aerodynamic, at a small price.
My car weighs about 3545lbs right now. With all the above additions including professional labor, my grand total so far including tinting and new car air freshener is $44,650.00 in Los Angles.
Hundreds of people across the country have made this list of change outs and more. The Saleen SC tunes have had hundreds of test subjects, and a little more power is safely available.
I now have a car that weighs 3545lbs @490 flywheel HP. I have a race Mustang suspension and brakes, and as much useable power as I will ever need on real streets and freeways in LA. I'm in love with how my car looks, because I designed and ordered it that way.
I have kept up with(on the 110 freeway and 2) and not been shaken off by Corvettes, Porsches, best Mercedes, BMWsport coupes, all costing with Insurance and maintenance and upgrades and sales tax easily 2 1/2 to 3 times and more the cost of my car.
After reading the reviews on the GT500, I am really happy with my grand total of $44.650.00 I could care less about how powerful the GT500 could be, that will only help it at the track, not on the street. It will always weigh 3960 plus, on the same frame and chasis I have, and will still need almost ALL of the parts I have added to the suspension. My brakes are at least as good, and my power is overboard for any usable real on road traction driving on this chasis platform.
Thank you all for the magazine info, I feel fantastic about what I did with my car since last November acting on my predictions about the GT500.The better engine cannot offset it's weight and price if you consider sales tax and insurance, forget about it. This car is for track guys to resurrect with after market tunes and parts, not for driving enthusiasts. I've got a better car for thousands less. Love Erik

I think everyone is getting too caught up in the weight issue here. Yes, I know that it is heavy, but the Mustang has always been a heavy car. In '67 Shelby said that the new design changes made the Mustang a "fat pig". Then, when he was working on the GT-500 he added weight.
The curb weight of the '67 fastback with a V-8 was 2915 lbs.
The curb weight of the '67 GT500 was 3286 lbs.
That is a weight increase of 12.7%
The weights of the two current cars....3480 for the GT and 3920 for the GT500 are an increase of 12.6%. This car, weight wise, is right on par with the car that anyone in this forum would give their right nut for......just 40 years younger.
Also....the GT500 of old had 355 bhp while the 390 GT had 320 bhp.
The comparison today.....500 bhp for the GT500 vs. (the only number I could find in a quick search was the '06 number) 300 bhp from the GT.
'67 GT500 had an 11% boost in power over the GT
'07 GT500 has a 66.7% boost in horsepower
I would take the '67 over '07 any day, but Jesus guys.....this is a pretty **** good car if you do a head to head comparison of improvements vs. prices. And almost anyone who wants one will be able to afford one once the first 300 guys have paid a huge markup on theirs.

I talked to the salesman at Jacky Jones Ford in Ga.and he saidthey are getting 5 in. He said 25 guys are on that list but a lot will drop out. He said they will mark it up $10,000 and it will go for $55,000. That is a little beyond me. He said they are getting in some new version Saleens with 375 hp 302 ci. engine. He said when I see this car it'll change my mind on the Shelby. Man, all I can say is too many cars, too little money !!

I received the latest issue of 'Inside the Oval', Ford Racing's mag that's replacing the SVTOA Enthusiast.
Jay O'Connell, SVT chief said in April that all car mags were invited to the GT500 press event. There were two pre-production Shelby's made available to the press, and the best time logged 0-60 was 4.3 seconds, and 1/4 mile was 12.25 at 117! Game over!!Seems like C&D, and R&T are best suited to road testing anything with auto trans ...

That's more like it
4.3 seconds sounds right for 500 hp @3920 lbs With upping the boost, and really tightening up the suspension, along with going with that independent rear suspension kit we've heard about, this car could be pretty amazing. Let's Hope. Erik

I agree
After all, I have the Saleen VI SC on my GT, and the JDM tune with 3.6 pully for 8.5 lbs boost to the SC. I couldn't be happier with how fast and nimble my car is with the complete suspension change outs. I don't see ever needing more power for the street, since I'm at a sucide acceleration rate as it is for the mean streets of LA. Erik

A couple of things,
First, R&T does not powershift for best times like MM&FF,
Second, a friend of mine was on the photoshoot over in Marin county, and said that this particular car (the gray one) was pretty beat already because the magazine guys thrashed it hard the week before as well as who nows who else did prior.
And third, it's not an Acura or BMW.........
