Ummm...all the people currently willing to pay the outrageous ADMs, that's who.

Ford should just have done the car to the nines to begin with, and kept the profits for themselves, rather than let the dealers charge excessive markups for a "lesser" car.

All the manufacturers that you listed that have heavy cars are either Sedans, Luxury Cars, or Luxury GTs. The GT500 is none of the above. Obviously the luxury content in a RS4(and AWD) or Ferrari 559 adds a lot of weight. Ferrari's performance cars are lightweight...ex F430(3300 lbs). Weight is the enemy is a performance car. Ford hasn't learned this yet!

I disagree. I think Ford knows this very well...witness the GT.

The problem is that Ford hasn't the money, resources, will, or buyer demographic to spend the money to do the car along 21st century lines, and still hope to sell it to it's target market. Ford is the car of the working-class proletariat. A state-of-the-art, high-tech, light weight approach to the GT500 would have cost too much money and eliminated a lot of buyers.

Of course, they're already being eliminated by the ADMs, but once the dust settles, the car will come back down to MSRP, and for those who can get into one THEN, it must be affordable.

The point I'm making is that people looking seriously at import vehicles that provide the solutions you're alluding to, don't buy Fords, and generally vice versa.

Don't get me wrong I love the Ford GT, but for 67K you can get a C6 Z06 that is almost identical in every performance catagory for HALF the price. The GT weighs 3485, which is 350 lbs lighter than the Z06.

Adding high tech features will cost money, but so did the licensing to have the Shelby name on the car. The Shelby name does nothing for the car performance wise.

What was the 0-60 run that MM&FF achieved? 12.25 is excellent (faster than the C6, wow).

You are correct and incorrect at the same time. The Shelby Coupe won't be had for $45,000.....it will be had for $41,000 plus whatever options you decide to add. Take a look here
Actually you are correct and incorrect. You forgot destination and delivery and Gas guzzler tax.
MSRP: $40,930
GGTax: $1,300
D&D: $745
So the window sticker will read: $42,975 plus tax.
And if you need a front plate bracket it will be an additional $295.

Do we know this to be factually true, or are we just speculating...?

Sometimes I think that Ford using the Shelby name on the GT500 has been a wonderful marketing tool for Shelby Automobiles, by building massive brand awareness that can only help the sales of that company. Ford may not have paid as much for the name licensing as we all like to think.

My reason for posting that was because, I constantly see people complaining about the 41,000 dollar price tag for the coupe. IF the dealers have the guts to mark up a car an extra 20,000 for this car, how far would they go if the car was priced at 50,000, would they mark up the car by another 20, 000 therefore making this a 70,000 dollar car?

Then Ford would have to justify the fact that they overpriced a Mustang?
Shoot if it were for me, I would want this car to weigh 3100 pounds, have 500 horses and pull 1gs, but how much are people willing to pay for that.

Oh well, no sense in arguing

So a Z06, a fiberglass bodied 2-seater, weighs about 3835 lbs!?!
And people were complaining because the much bigger ,steel bodied, 4-seat GT500 weighs about 3900 lbs?

I guess I shouldn't be suprised at the weight, the Ferrari 612 Scagiletti weighs 4,056 lbs with an aluminum chassis and body

The Vette definitely takes the cake in the "mid-life crisis" category.

Wait, the C6 Z06 weighs 3835!!! Is that correct?

So why is everyone complaining about the Shelby's weight? Is a GT Car.

But then you still won't have a Ford GT, you will have a Z06 and that is not a bad thing. Performance for the buck, the Z06 has that lock down. However, is all in the preference, I might prefer to own a Ford GT and not a Z06, just because it cost more (The GT) and it performs just slightly better does not make it any less of a car.

Sorry...That was a brain fart. I meant HEAVIER. The C6 Z06 weighs 3132.

As for the 612, it's a Luxury GT. Luxury content adds a ton of weight.

Stop With the C6 vs GT500. Mustangs are not sports cars like the C6 is, The C6 is a 2 seat SPORTS CAR. The mustang is and has always been a midsized muscle car. Would you compare the 1969 mustang to a 1969 vett???? No the mustang would be put up againset the the comaro.
We dont compare Pro-stock cars to indy cars, so why would we do it to the GT500 and C6. The old saying goes ( IT IS WHAT IT IS ) Its done the GT500 is 3900 lbs. take it or leave it. The battle lines have been drawn pick the car you like best and go to war.

Word up. If anything, this separates the true Mustang enthusiasts from the posers.

I am a Mustang enthusiast, but first and foremost an automobile enthusiast. I can care less what brand the car is. Sadly, if I was to buy a new car right now it would be a C6. It's an amazing machine!
