Motor Trend camparison

Comparison: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 vs. 2008 Ford Shelby GT500

They judged the Challenger the winner!

Get real, although the GT-500 accelerates faster, handles better, stops in the same distance and gets better gas mileage, the Challenger has a more comfortable ride and has a larger trunk - the 2 most important considerations when buying a pony car.

Let's see...
The GT500 goes faster, skid-pads better, figure 8s better, gets better gas mileage, stops basically just as fast and looks better.
So it loses the comparison.
I may have canceled my subscription to Car and Driver...
But I never even subscribed to Motor Trend.

I think all Ford owner should boycott Motor Trend and Car and Driver!
I may buy one when I am flying, otherwise I don't read them.

Might I add that according to their summation, the GT500 also has a "whiney motor".... What were they smoking???

The challenger is NEWER. The newer car always wins these.

I personally reserve judgement until i've driven them both.

Don't forget the GT500 also has 2 years more warranty, a 6 speed transmission and doesn't have a rear end that looks like a cylon mated with a school bus.

The Challenger like the Charger need all the help they can get, The G/t 500 and the Challenger not in the same class . I'am not impressed at all. Their new so their paying all the press to give it good reveiws so it will sell. At $40,000.00 12mpg and only medeocur perfomance hard sell.Looks ok but that will fade in a while they only made that body style in the 70's for 4 years Imo time will tell. Lets not forget the dealer ADM.

Amen Bro!

Also, as long as the Mustang still has the live rear axle instead of some cushy independant rear suspension, it will lose in these comparisons. But in my book, the live rear axle is just what I want. It beats paying 400 bones for an upgraded 1/2 shaft when the stock one lets loose at the track...

I will not be surprised when MT concludes the Challenge is better than the GT500KR and the Corvette ZR1.

What surpises me is they have not done a comp with the FORD GT or the Carrera S.

Motor Trend pisses me off! These guys are the same clowns that did a "virtual test" on the 09' Mustang VS 10' Camaro........... With the Camaro getting the sweep in V6, GT/Z28, GT500/SS comparos...........They must assume that the Camaro will have a cushier ride and bigger trunk like the Challenger! How can you compare cars that don't even exist

Oh yeah and they also pick the 911 over the Z06 because of nicer seats and better stitched leather. Same with the BMW 3 series over the Infinity G37............These writers are stupid yuppies I'm looking for the Hot Rod Mag review! Thanks for letting me vent guys.

I hear ya, but is the Challenger really a new car? From what I gather it's a two door Charger with different sheet metal. Even the interior is pretty much identical to that of an SRT8 Charger. Oh by the way in the review it got high praise for it's "superior" interior........ My ex's Charger's interior began falling apart after 6 months of ownership..........

I don't get why the automotive press always kicks down Ford products, look at the negative reviews it has given the Fusion, Taurus and Focus. Though the Focus isn't my cup of tea the other two along with the Mustang are highly competitive cars on the market.

Let's face it guys. Challenger just came out and it have to win. That's why Edmunds is comparing it only to Bullitt and Motor Trend is embarrassing them self with a stupid conclusion.

Next time I wish they would take Shelby GT500KR and Challenger R/T.

My guess is Ford must not spend as much in advertising as the other makers do.

I have to agree....The car magazines are starving for paying readership. Therefore they kindly accept donations rom the car makers for reviewing their products....It's simple...pay as you go publications...This is nothing new and will be repeated as long as advertisers rule the press....money talks boys...
don't be upset...the new Challenger is a bomb and will sit on dealer lots. Hemi's are all hype from an era that is long dead to their current engineering stock and trade.

Now the Camaro is a different animal. GM has a committment to this car and the performance will be there..they have the engineering and the resources to see this thru the initial launch. It should help Ford propel the Mustang forward with renewed interest in the Pony wars.... Chrysler sucks....ahem...just a side comment.

The Challenger does look good, probably performs good, sounds good, drives good, on the outside. On the inside it looks like a Dodge Caliber with fancy seats. And the GT500 could wipe the streets with that thing.
