I've just noticed something...
With the car on dealers’ lots for a week or two now not one person on this site has one. I may be mistaken but I don't see any posts saying look at my new Shelby. I wonder if these cars are getting into the hands of any real Mustang enthusiasts.

Definately an enthusiast... but with all those cars it seems he's exactly what TexasStang described... an enthusiast with tons of money to blow.
Most guys here I doubt have a "collection."
But cool he got one anyway I'd be interested to know what he paid for it.

Doesn't really matter to me what anyone does with their money. Plenty of people buy things I would never buy but it's not my money so...
As for his collection. Yes I'm sure it will be and is very nice. But that doesn't change the fact that he obviously has more money than most. The Mustang was originally built for those who didn't have more money than most... that was the point I was trying to make.

So what if the guy has "tons of money"? Good for him! And good job spending it, at least he shows he has taste and a passion.
I don't agree with those saying that the Mustangs should only be bought by enthusiasts with little money. I think it's a clear sign this car still holds its reputation, when it's bought by rich people too. This man bought the car because HE LIKED IT!
I agree that when some people accept to pay 60k+ for the Shelby kinda encourage the dealers to keep the prices up, but let's be realistic: was the '67 GT500 (at $4.2 k, only 2,084 built) really a car for "the masses", like the standard coupe ($2.4K, 325,853 built)? I don't think so.

Let's be honest for a minute. It has become apparent guys that the new Mustang was Fords way of getting into the Pockets of middle-aged men. Along the way some of us younger guys/gals were able to pickup a car when the hype settled down or we ran into a good deal. Basically the GT500 was supposed to be a best bang for the buck performance car for the middle class. However it has become a toy for the rich and collectors. Which totally defeats the point of why the car exists.

This is what most people were talking about when the price of the car and markup put the car out of reach for the average guy. There is no doubt that your friend loves mustangs, but what good are they if you don't DRIVE them. I want to see those cars on the street and at the drag strip, not sitting in some guys garage.

It took me more than a year after the new Mustang to come out to be able to afford one
And Louie I don't care that he has tons of money. I don't know for a fact that he does honestly. I don't know the man. Perhaps he's poor and mortgaged to the eyeballs... how should I know? I was quoting AND agreeing with what someone else wrote.
Do I think he has tons of money? Probably. As for your analogy to the older Shelby, yes I agree... it was priced higher for people who wanted the performance.
BUT the same year Corvette which is often compared to the Mustang was over 5K still more than a thousand dollars over what the Shelby was.
Run down to your local Corvette dealer and see how much you can pick up a new Vette for. It will be LESS than the price of a Shelby.
This very reason is why people are upset about the dealer markups.
