GT500. Is it boring to look at?

http://www.automochatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454

I've seen afew GT500's on the street, and I don't know, they do nothing for me visually. They bore me. In fact, I think a nice spoiler delete GT, with base wheels, is MUCH cooler looking than the big, bad, GT500.

The other day, I saw a black GT500 convertible. I felt the same way about it. Boring wheels, a hood which only serves to make the car look like a more massive battle axe - someone at Ford design missed the boat here. A short while later, I saw a black '03/'04 SVT Cobra convertible. So much more pleasant to look at. Just the right size. Ford nailed the wheels and their affect on the car's proportions. Just so much nicer to look at, I couldn't take my eyes off it.

Just wanted to get that off of my chest....

I can kind of agree with that statement...As personally I like the look of the 03-04 Cobra over the 07 GT500. Although when my Uncle brought his down, I thought it was pretty clean.

i have yet to see even ONE gt500 on the road. I'm quite sad about that...

the GT500 is a beautiful car in my opinion and I give kudos to all the mustangs on this site that have done the shelby conversion.

If it had any more done to it, then people would complain about it being over the top.

I remember, when I finally saw one in person it was less impressive to me than when I first saw it in pre-release pics. It's still a really nice car, and would be a super deal at MSRP.

How many I have heard that from? Too many. No one that has seen my Angel yet and said she was boring to look at.

IMO, it is best to keep the lines clean and simple with understated cues. Else, on the Old School style car, it will look too ricey. I am glad they kept it simple.

So... this expert critique comes from Camaro guy?

I can't wait to see his top ten list for fine fast food dining.

I've seen several on the road and one up close at a car show. I think they are generally quite good looking, hardly boring. While I might have my gripes about the GT500 (overweight, overpriced, mediocre suspension, $25K interior in a $42K car), Ford really did great with the styling and I think nailed it with the front end especially (much closer to the well integrated 2005 Concept Stang). The hood doesn't look as nicely done as the GT500 Concept hood, but ain't an eyesore either. The wheels look fine if not overly inspired.

Ford showed good taste and restraint and didn't turn it into an overwrought caricature of a muscle car, pumping it up just enough but leaving the ridiculous to aftermarket excesses.

I saw a black one... and I wouldn't say it was boring. Sure, it could use some "bling", but a hot car nonetheless. Simple window tint would have helped.

I don't think its boring to look at, the new mustang as a whole is an appealing car. My only gripe with the exterior GT 500 as much as there are some mild changes from the Mustang GT it does not look as unique as the 67 GT 500s did form there earlier counterparts. Interior way to much plastic on the Mustang GT let alone the GT 500 for 40+K. Over all not boring, but not exactly beyond exciting either, the concept was a better looking car in my mind.

+1 I think the Concept embodies most of the characteristics we all seem to desire in the car.

I have my gripes about all the plastic too. But, otherwise it would be too high priced. I can update and interior over time if i wish. But, i am glad Ford spent the money where IMO it counts;- in the Engine and driveline.

i disagree wholeheartedly. THe GT500 is the best looking of any of the s197s including all aftermarket and tuners versions.

Have to agree about the Shelby badge being off to the left, looks retarded on that side. Put it in the middle, the Shelby GT is in the middle, plus the new hood for the GT-500 with the plastic vent thingy's also looks retarded, concept hood had it going on. Maybe for 2008 the gt-500 will fix these slight problems. Only other complaint is of the dumb *** dealers getting like 20-30k over msrp. Sorry if I'm gonna spend that much money I will get a Z-06.

He says "someone at Ford design missed the boat here"? I think not. As you may well know, Ford spent alot of time designing and engineering these cars.
I got my first close up look at a GT500 last night. I went to the dealer to pick up my license plates and the salesman sees me pull up with a very diferent looking car than the one he sold me, ( Stripes and wheels/tires/exaust all new). So he took me over to GT500 they just got in. It was Tungston Gray WITHOUT stripes. Now obviously I like the stripes cause I put them on my car, But man, it really looked nice. It did have the rocker stripes. IMO it was just clean enough to make you look. Sticker was 44K and change. Salesman says "add 20,000 to that and it's yours". And if that wasn't enough, they had a Shelby GT right next to it. Black w/silver stripes and spoiler delete to boot. 31K. "Add 15,000 to that and it's yours".
Mmm.....I look at my car and say "nah, I'm pretty happy with what I,ve got".

Hon, it IS too high priced.

For what people are paying, I would have prefered if Ford had offered a more upscale interior and just charged a higher MSRP to begin with. It would have been more difficult for dealers to justify such high ADMs if Ford were demanding more from the factory to begin with.

I have to agree as an owner of a new Shelby GT500 that the styling isnt too impressive especially from the view most will see it from.... .THE REAR!!! The front is way cool, but the rest of the car is ho hum.
