I don't get it. The production figures are kinda high for an SVT. The earlier SVT Cobras 93-01 sold in far fewer numbers than the current GT500. I'm happy to all of you with the means to purchase these awesome cars but the "bargain" supercar that Ford promoted as the GT500 is kinda a crock. Because Ford knows that they can now sell a $75,000 Mustang they should perhaps make further improvements to the current GT500 (more HP, suspension tweaks, IRS....) and charge 60-70k for it and make a few minor cosmetic changes to the current GT500 and bring back the old SVT Cobra name and charge $45,000 for it.

Personally I think you got a real good point. My argument for the 5.4 in the 2008 BULLITT was also kind of along these lines from the economic view.

Personally I liked the 01' Bullitt much more. Many people forget how unique the 01' bullitt looked. The hood scoop and retro wheels were orginally on the Bullitt before Ford took away some of the car's charm and uniqueness by putting it on all the 02-04 GTs. Plus the 68' style interior was awesome. Though the performance was modest in the HP dept. they did do a good job tuning the suspension. Is it just me or is the 08' Bullitt nothing more than a rebadged Shelby GT? At least with the 99-04 SEs Ford put different powerplants in the Bullitt and Mach1. I agree 100% that a 400HP naturally asperated 5.4 would have been a much better fit!

Willie, what happened? Did the deal go through?

Well, I found another used '07 for less but the dealership already had a deposit on it. They told me last week to wait until this week and if they didn't get a full-fledged commitment on it, they would contact me. In the meantime...... Today, I found a new '08 with the Shaker 1000, Sirius, Ambient Lighting, HIDs, etc. for...... (drum roll please).... MSRP!!!!!! As I type this, the paperwork is being transmitted from the dealership to my credit union. The only unknown now is how to pick it up. It's 700 miles away and the way the salesman is talking, it's going to cost an arm and a leg to ship it. I don't agree with this because I already have shipping quotes in the neighborhood of $600 for 1400 miles and $800 for 1700 miles.. I think the dealership I'm working with is trying to pad the deal. If their shipping quote is unusually high, I'll have no choice but to personally go get it myself. In the meantime, I'll inquire with some transport companies and get quotes from them...

George,

If it wasn't for you, I'd have finalized the deal on the '07 days ago!! So it is YOU that directly contributed to me finding this new '08. Is it possible for me to take you to lunch, being an Alcatraz "member"? Where are you anyways?

The new '08 is in Fresno. I did check into shipping costs and it will definitely be shipped.

Willie,

I bet it would be cheaper for you to get a flight to where the dealership is than it would be for you to have it transported. Look into it.

btw, i may have one at MSRP also. Keep watch over the "Should i order" thread. If the stars align and the clouds part, there will be an update to that thread in a few weeks.

Well, to tell the truth, I don't get along with planes very well. It's a combination of claustrophobia and motion sickness. I can tolerate 737s (with drugs) but not puddle jumpers. So I could conceivably fly to LA but won't be in any condition to drive another couple hundred miles to Fresno. I've received one shipping quote so far, $535 to my door. That doesn't seem too bad...

Awesome and congrats! I've been reading your posts. I think these MSRP deals will start surfacing, one at a time until it becomes commonplace. Do you know when yours will be arriving? In my case, the car I bought is EXACTLY the way I'd spec it out so buying it was a no-brainer.

Very thorough and fair post indeed. My sentiments EXACTLY ... I couldn't put it in words any better.

So, now you blame ME for it! Such ingratitude!

Hey, how did you get a hold of my credit card?
Is it possible for me to take you to lunch...
Yes you can but, I AM NOT CHEAP!
Where are you anyways?

BTW, CONGRATS! I am happy for you.

Seriously now, I am glad that I was able to help. That's what TMS is all about.

I tried to be as diplomatic as possible in case you bought the car in Orlando but I was sure that car was not kosher.

Anyways, what color combo are you getting?

Thanks! I'm either personally picking it up tomorrow or having it shipped next week. I'll decide later today.

It's torch red, white striping and charcoal interior. HID, ambient and cover. MSRP of $47,255.

Does anyone know why the EPA fuel mileage estimate is 14 mpg for '08 when it was 15 mpg in '07???

I'm just taking a stab here but your 08' is no worse on gas than the 07'. The EPA is going by new fuel consumption standards. All cars starting in 08' will have more accurate fuel consumption numbers posted on the window stickers. I read a story about it in Motor Trend, it has something to do with how they test the cars now. I guess in the old days they never compenasated for climate conditions, full throttle, using the a/c.stuff like that. In fact pretty much every 08' model has worse gas mileage posted than a 07' model. A bunch of trouble started when Toyota Prius owners were finding it impossible to get the posted gas mileage. It's kinda similar to the new HP rating system a couple years back. Toyota isnt liking it lol there cars are losing posted HP and now MPG.

Hey Jester (I think your name is George) I was just wondering with two GT500s do you plan on modding one, and posting videos going 9s in the 1/4? I gotta say the white one is my fav.

The only mod is the FRPP axle back with no additional mods planned and I retired from the drag strip. It stopped being fun plus the expense and beatings on cars got old, besides I wasn't that proficient at it. My fun comes in corner carving, open roads, and cruising.

Congrats.

There is beginning to be more GT500s avaialble at MSRP and obviously those are moving.
At MSRP it's a very good value. New crate GT500 engines are being advertised as 'deal' prices of 16K alone
