Well... they are in! Only a four letter word can describe the transformation... FANTASTIQUE... FANTASTICO... FAAAAAAN-TAS-TIC!

Also I got to take a mint 1965 Shelby GT-350 for a short spin. It made me miss my old '68.

I love the way mine sounds also. the only drawback is that i have that drone at about 1600-2000 rpms. anywhere else in the rpms and its gone.

The rolled tips that say ford racing on them look awsume as well.

OK - I'm recently smitten. I've always been a fan of classic Mustangs and once had a '69 Mach 1. I believed I was waiting for the new V8 M3 to be released next year for my next car. That was, until, I made a little side trip to see/drive/hear a modded 2007 GT500. Based on the sounds the car made and the ridiculous power on tap, (It had exhaust, CAI, pulley, and tune), I haven't been able to get it out of my head. I'm officially Shelby shopping. I know I'll add exhaust immediately for sound quality as much as anything. Is there a resource out there besides Youtube where there are some good sound and dyno comparisons? Thanks- based on the review here I'll of course be considering the FRPP product strongly. -Keith

Here are my observations after having the FRs for a couple of days.

I was concerned it might be too loud but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The FRs have a well balanced tone and rumble on idle and low RPMs. It seems to really let loose on high RPMs. It does have a bit of drone but it's not that bad, it's the lowest level of drone I've had from all the after market exhausts on Mach 1s, Cobra, present and previous generation GTs.

Nice characteristic of the GT500s is when you add pipes, axleback or the entire thing, it sounds deep and mean without being obnoxious loud. Of course, if you're really getting into it, then you expect it. But for just cruising, it's nice and the sound disappears.

Got the Bassini 3" o/r x and race muffs on mine and it is not much louder while rolling than one with a FRPP Axleback. Have already had some write into the local forums to tell me they followed me to hear the Angel Sing.

If you consider changing the remaining of the exhaust system, know it will be even better.

I rolled the dice and got lucky enough to get the exact exhaust note I was hoping for. I don't want it to sound as if I am on a track at all times.

Appears just like the Bassini tail pipes on mine.

George, it only screams when you get in it. Say, past 3k in a power gear. Otherwise, it just rumbles up some as you apply the gas.

If I roll the neighbourhood at 40 mph in 4th, the sound nearly disappears.

Freeway at 70 in 6th, is low sound as well.

Wow, I'm just barely able to use 3rd gear at 40 MPH. 4th gear, you must be turning about 500 RPMs!

Nope! Been driving hot rods too many years. Every engine and tranny is different. First thing I do when I get in a different car is find where the clutch is at; - and then roll a block or two to find out what the gearing and shift points are. No need to read a tune for that.

The 05 Roush I have, idle is at 640, she shifts nice at 1800-2200 for just rolling the street. Can be as low as 1700 on straightaways. 1400-1700 float the gears. Do it from day one since I had the car and no problems yet - lol - at 21k miles now. She'll start bucking if you shift near 3k and then wants to go.

GT500, idle is at 850, she shifts nice at 1400-1800 for rolling the street. Floating gears at 1200-1500. Shift it past 2200 in a power gear with this tune in her, and she thinks you want to race, with the tires spinning. Have to be underway in the gear before you lay into it on the street.

From what I experianced with these S197s are that as long as the shifting is at 600-800 rpm above idle, there is no problem. Underway and cruising with this difference is no problem either.
