Early production GT500? Houston, we have a problem!

Symptoms: on 3rd gear. Vibrations, rattle on high RPMS, seemed as if the gear would not lock firmly.

Diagnostic: Shifter or transmission.

It turned out to be both. The shifter was replaced with one which is updated. Some of its plastic components which failed are now made of metal on the new shifter, improving the feel although not eliminating the problem. A new transmission has been ordered which is an updated version with upgraded parts and components.

I've had the car for a year and half, it now has 5,300 miles. The problem developed somewhere after 4,700 miles and got progressively worst in the last month. I've been given a pretty thorough insight and it seems to me the original transmission should have never been on the car to begin with.

This is a popular topic in teamshelby. Several guys have had the same problem. Early 2007s didn't get the input spline lubed at the factory. I think the replacement ones have a nickel plated spline.

I was told today the transmission is on nation wide back order. I've always thought there was supposed to be a certain percentage of spare parts available to the public.

It is not my daily driver but what if it was?

I didn't bother to ask for one. I assume the old loaner policy went down the toilet just about the same time SVT did.

not true if they are goin to have your car for a while ... call them and tell them you need a free loaner.

The dealer is aware I don't need a loaner and the car is home. The tech who worked on replacing the shifter told me the transmission swap would take four hours. I can drop the car in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon once the new transmission is delivered.

I hate to hear about things like this. We buy these cars expecting perfection. I can live with having to have a leaky radiator hose clamp fixed (mine had that common problem). Transmission replacement is not a minor thing. If mine is going to go, I sure hope it goes under warranty.

There is no such thing. My Mach 1 had the tick and my Cobra had a clunk on the front suspension. I've had good luck with Ford as far as having issues corrected therefore I exercise patience and restraint so I am happy.

On the flip side, if I don't get my way I guarantee I will be the antagonizing sandflea (references are available ) which never goes away.

I know. This is my third Mustang. I know all about the "character" they all have. I just had high hopes for this one. My tranny is not bad, but, I have a small "buckle" in my back fender. I think this is due to a weak point in the chassis. I can't get it to photograph well, but, the first page of this link will show it to you.

My car is a coupe. A few other coupe owners are getting them.
