Clutch issues on my 2007 Shelby gt500

I get a squeal like noise when I release the clutch in 1st gear and reverse. All the other gears are fine. I hope I don't need a new clutch. It doesn't seem to be slipping, just a loud belt like sqeal noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to TMS Sneaky. Nice stable of cars. I dont get on here much anymore. Not much action on this section of the forum.

There is a ton of information on clutch issues. You might try teamshelby.com forums. There is a guy over there that has kinda made clutch issues his passion. Last I looked, there was a sticky about clutches written by this guy. He goes by Grabber.

As far as I can remember, there werent any squeals involved in the bad flywheels that damaged clutches and some transmissions (including mine). The only clutch release squeals I am familiar with are belt slips when the clutch is dumped at higher RPMs. In other words, quick shifts while having your foot in the gas. I suppose it might be a loose belt.

I would read through Grabbers thread over there and see if there is any info on squealing. DO you know if your flywheel has been replaced? Many were on the early cars.

Not sure if anything was done to the clutch. I'm the second owner. I'll go to the dealership where the previous owner bought it. They should have all the records.

Sneaky - did you ever figure this out? My clutch went on my 09 with 16K on it.. All highway miles mostly. Had a SPEC 3 put on and a new fly wheel and it was fine for 3 months... Then just as you described while in first gear starts.. This squeal noise comes and goes.. Not all the time.. But most... It has done it on a few down shifts coming off highway exits at speed... I was thinking it might be the throw out bearing since it was not changed... Please let me know... Bugs the crap pout of me to know it is ducked up.. Thanks.

Still can't figure it out. I agree with you I think it's the throwing bearing also.
