Back Pressure & Supercharger + 5th Gear
Back Pressure & Supercharger + 5th Gear
A friend of mine is looking to install the cat-back system on his GT500 (stock with factory supercharger).
The question is, shall he remove the catalytic convertors when installing the cat-back system? or is it important to keep them for supercharger back pressure?
Also, occasionaly when power shifting, he is afraid to fit the reverse gear instead the 5th gear. Is there any safety feature or lock to avoid this on the GT500?

There aren't any issues with or without running cats (other than the MILs going off due to the removal of the cats - if a second set of 02 sensors are installed) and no you dont have to worry about shifting into reverse.
Back pressure and the problem of over scavenging the engine are generally not a problem with an S/C engine. The supercharger on boost provides positive pressure and on over-lap will blow down the cylinder minimizing or preventing any sort of reversion.
