The GT500's tach and speedo have swapped sides. What gives?

S'okay...

SVT performance cars are set up this way - its done for more performance minded drivers, as it is easier to keep an eye on the tach when it is on the right.

I wonder if those of us that own GTs can switch out the console. The tach should definitely be on the right.

Then why didn't the regular GT get this? The mustang is a sportscar.

Actually the Mustang is a muscle car, if anything....

SVT products (and the special editons actually) are for performance enthusiasts or more performance oriented buyers - that's why they don't produce as many and are a limited run. (Cobras, Mach 1, Bullitt, etc...) These cars have the bells and whistles because they know only the performance buyer is going to want one.

The regular GT is made for a WIDE market segment, selling to as many people as possible. You want to make the car as universal in its appeal to appeal to tha very large consumer segment. And why do you think the price is less than the special editions or SVTs? Because it needs to appeal to the everyday buyer.

It's just a quick and easy (read:cheap) way to further distinguish the GT 500 from the garden variety GT and make the buyer feel like they're getting something extra. Both cars should have it on the right side, but they handicap the GT so the GT 500 can be 'exclusive' when the tach is where it should be.

I am all for it. Nobody looks at the speedometer anyway.
