50% less GT500's next year?
I inquired with a dealership in Austin about purchasing a GT500 and this is their response. I think it is bologny as I have not heard that Ford is going to decrease the production next year. What's your take on next year's production?
"From the information I received it shows you are currently in the market for a New Shelby GT 500. At this moment we have TWO vehicles available to special order; those shown in our inventory are pre-sold to customers specs. You may come in to order your Shelby GT; the price is MSRP plus $20k Fair Market Adjustment. We have several customers considering a purchase right now!!!
The *MSRP is $45,060, because there are so few available for the 1st year demand, they are selling for $65,060., IF you can get one of these rare items, which surely will gain value in the future, as all Shelby's have.
Next year, Ford will build 50% less, so the demand is not going away."

Fair Market Adjustment = Dealer Markup. To say fair market adjustment would mean it is costing them more to get the car to the dealer. There is nothing fair about it. As for the 50% less i dont believe it. Although it would be nice if some of our dealer friends in TMS land to comment. It sounds like a ploy to make you buy one now at 20k over thinking that it will be tougher next year. They can speculate all they want but I want to see a memo from Dearborn saying it is so.

I believe production could be considerably less, especially considering that 2007 Mustang production started two months earlier than it normally does. MY2008 production probably won't start until August 2007.

05, my BS meter is going off from his statement. Ford hasn't announced ANYTHING in regards to the 2008 production of the GT500s. That salesman just made himself look very, very stupid!

Call other dealers and see what they tell you. Before I ordered my 05 Mustang GT I talked to several dealers, and here is the information I got from one of them on the day I ordered my car.
'if you order your Mustang today you're not going to see it for at least a year since Ford is backed up on current orders', then I called the dealer where I ordered my car and his response to the comments from the other dealer 'order the car today and you'll have it in six weeks'.
I ordered the car over the phone and drove it home in eight weeks (delays in production resulted in a longer ETA).
IMHO the dealer you're talking to wants to make as much as he can on the Shelby GT500 so he's telling people the car is rare so people will buy now instead of waiting for the demand to drop so they can pay MSRP or below.
Remember when the 05's first came out? I remember hearing lots of BS from dealers-'Limited edition','GT's not coming out until late in MY05', 'no dealer is going to accept x-plan on the Mustang' (I got mine at x-plan).

make a bet.
Ask if he is willing to take a lie detector test, which you would gladly pay for. If he passes it you'll pay the $20K over, if he fails you would get the car of your choice at invoice.
I should be an arbitrator.

A very good point Brad. Although 50% just seems a little far. If he had said 10%-15% decrease in production I might have believed him.

My guess is that there will be ~9,300 made for MY 07 because of the long production year and ~8,000 made in MY08.

These dealers are full of . If you've ever seen the dealer info manual from Ford, Ford tells the dealers that the buyer will have more information on all aspects of this car than the dealer, and that the dealer should annoint a point man for GT 500 customers. I think more factual information can be found on these forum's than from the dealer. This is proven every time the dealer tries to tell someone the ADM's are still 25-30k. Any educated buyer knows there at 8-15k over now.

Is this exactly the words he sent you? Im just curious why he said you can come in and order your Shelby GT and not your Shelby GT-500? Probably a mistake but with the new model coming out you would think they would start using specific model names and not confuse things. If he or she evens knows about the Shelby GT. The dealer I spoke with recently had to be educated....repeatedly and often...on what the Shelby GT was.

There is a simple solution to clarify this factual but unusual controversy...
make a bet.

the pure production numbers don't matter. it's all about production numbers VS. THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO WANT THE CAR. If someone turned down one at 10k over, that was a BIG mistake IMHO. Dealers in my area are still getting 20k over and have customers lined up to pay that. Some customers have said they will pay ANYTHING, because they can't get one. The allocation is limited.
The Ford GT was a different cat. The potential audience for a car that expensive is small. But a 45k or even a 65k car? You open up a whole new set of buyers.
Ain't capitalism great?
