I still say, even though I wouldn't ever want it myself, as long as AWD was optional, I don't see the problem.

Dang, Coop, that's what I was gonna say!

Yes, I would consider it, and if offered it should be an OPTION with RWD standard.

Keep the full-retro basic V8 RWD SRA for those who want 'em that way, and OFFER V8 AWD IRS (and every combination thereof) to those (few, likely) that would like it that way.

Too much money, though, IMHO...

I don't see a problem if it was set up similar to an STI or an EVO where you can control the amount of bias to the wheels that get power. You can set it to 90% RWD and 10% FWD and have a much more balenced car for spirited driving or fooling around on the street (no flames please). Or if you live where it snows on occasion set it to 50/50 and, bam you've got the grip when you need it. The only problem I have with an AWD system is the added weight and, that might be something that could be fixed. Although this might be a hard pill to swallow for diehard RWD fans, at least having it as a option would be cool. I also think it would call for some serious changes to the chassis of the car to incorporate an AWD system, that could be more of a blessing than a problem. Maybe? It all depends on the setup. I could just be wrong all together though. haha.

I'm all for AWD having owned three eclipse GSXs and on 3000GT VR-4 and a WRX. Nothing like being able to drive hard in the summer, hard in the winter, hard on the track.

The problems it will face.

AWD is very expensive your talking three diffs, four cvjs (half shafts), etc. the market is not at the place were you will sell many of these. Especially since the V6 bases over 20 and the GT is all but 30 already.

Weight. The mustang is not all that heavy (allbeit heavier). if you add all the components for AWD you will probably push near two tons.

Mileage. AWD is engaged all the time. as a result your engine is turning the tranny, the transaxle, the three diff, the cvjs, and the wheel assys all the time.

That being said, if ford could build an affordable, well engineered AWD Mustang I would definitely consider it

Never. I'll stick with my Subaru for when I want or need AWD. An AWD Mustang would have added weight, complexity, and cost, all of which it doesn't need.

Maybe it would open up a new market for the people who turned down the Mustang because they worried about RWD in snow during the winter months.

No.

Wait. I wanna change my answer.

*Hell* no. Love ya!

Mustang is what it is. Don't screw with it. They tried that with the Probe, and failed. Thankfully. There's a reason to have RWD, and Mustang is it. The viscerial "heh, it *could* swing loose..." as well as "weight transfer for the win"

AWD would take away some of that. And also add to the expense of a car, weight, and repair costs.

So yeah, pretty much not gonna happen in my camp.

Bad enough the TBird went from 2 seat to 4 seat to 4+ seat *OMG BEHEMOTHNESS* to 4 seat to gone to 2 seat to gone.

standard configuration needs to remain inexpensive, straight rear axle, V8, stickshift, 'forever' if its gonna have a mustang name...

if they want to make optional IRS/V6 turbo/AWD/rear transaxle/whatever, fine- but I'd hope it would be optional, and the basic 'mustang' formula might remain for the next generation as a fun/affordable/great sounding American icon of a car.

As much as people claim RWD is the only way to go for a sports car, I would entertain the idea of AWD. Especially since mustangs can't do this.

Who wants to get on the segway while I drive the car? Anyone?

I would consider an AWD in my next Mustang. But hesitantly.

Three sets of tires, one rear bumper, a change of shorts for the segway rider and one heckuva good time
