Would you ever consider an AWD option on a future Mustang?

Can't recall if I've ever seen this discussed before (search isn't working for me). It's obviously nearly improbable to happen for the 2010-2013ish models, but with the possiblity of the Mustang sharing a GRWD platform in 2013/2014 with a sedan, it could be possible. If such an AWD system was someday compatible with the Mustang, what's the general consensus here regarding it?

I have a feeling most of those concerned with performance would say no, but for those who use their stang as a daily driver, live up north, and aren't concerned with all out performance like myself may consider it. Coupes, although luxery, like the 3-series and the G37 offer it, and I think in particular it could give the volume selling V6 models a boost in practicality against FWD competitors like the Accord or Altima coupes.

Not personally, but I've got nothing against it.

I checked "Not for me..." though I will say that a fully independent suspension, turbocharged engine, and AWD would likely sound very appealing at Mustang's price point.

Well, it would keep those ricers from *****ing out the mustang all the time.
I still hear it every day:
"yeah, dude, mustangs are like, pretty cool, but you know what's cooler? All wheel drive, man. That's the real-deal... like the evo. those things are siiicckkk!!!"

And I have to reply in futility:
"but, but, the mustang is tradition! RWD is what REAL sports cars are!"

AWD is definitely appealing. The fusion does well; maybe the mustang would too. I would have to drive it.

I can appreciate the performance advantages that go along with an AWD car, but for me a Mustang should be nothing but RWD. After all, how are you going to rip through the gears while chirping the tires in an AWD Mustang? Or power through a corner while sliding the tail out? Just won't happen in an AWD Mustang.

RWD only for me. If I need traction for the winter snow storms, I'll hop in my 4Runner while my Mustang stays safely in the garage!

I'm Not Interested In It but the only way I see Ford doing an All Wheel Drive Mustang, (4 Wheel Drive Has a Different Connotation, It has something to do with the Power/Torque Split) Is if they ever move the Mustang onto a shared Front Wheel Drive Platform such as the Fusion or MKS and Offered All Wheel Drive on the Performance Models. All wheel drive has it's performance advantages, or else all of the European Supercars Wouldn't be offering it. Currently Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Jaguar, and Aston Martin all offer AWD Performance Models.

I'd consider it, certainly, but perhaps Ford might want to create a different, AWD performance coupe/sedan to complement the Stang. Easy thoughts might include some RS version of the upcoming Fiesta or refreshed Focus, the latter platform which already has access to AWD systems and some hot turbo I5s. Maybe even and SVT Fusion with a 340 EcoPower -- can you say "working man's Audi S4?"

I would perfer that Ford kept the rwd but downsized and lighened the car. to be a more nimble sports car. If i want AWD I'll buy a Fusion.

Perhaps, if this bit on Left Lane News is any indication, we may be getting a bit of both.
Ford News
Ford names new head of Global Performance Vehicles
Ford is working towards the goal of having the majority of its vehicles built on global platforms within the next few years, and it looks like that worldly mentality will spill over into the Blue Oval’s performance divisions. On Thursday Ford named Jost Capito as the head of its Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development.

In his new position, Capito – who has worked with Porsche and BMW and has also been an integral part of Ford’s WRC operations – will head up Ford’s SVT and European TeamRS operations. That means that Ford’s SVT and TeamRS divisions will be closer linked, increasing the possibility of shared products – such as the Focus RS that has been off limits to U.S. residents.
Capito will make the move from the UK to Dearborn in preparation to take the position in January 2009. Capito, 50, has been with Ford since 2001.

No, just give the Mustang IRS or better a Watts link and keep the size smaller and lighter.

Blasphemy! If I wanted an Evo-X I'd get one.

I'd say give the Mustang an SRA/IRS option hold weight steady or lighten it up a bit. If the next gen is going IRS I want the whole package damnit! I want SLA/IRS! enough with this half assed front suspension stuff (Just kidding BTW, I've got no problem with the mac strut front end. Its saved me a bundle in front end alignments over the years)

Nah, keep the Mustang RWD only without IRS. And keep it that way forever!

It's funny, but I when I ordered my '09, I specifically wanted to keep it as old school as possible. So no HIDs or navigation. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to get the satellite radio because I ordered the 3.55 rear end. But the whole idea for me is to keep the retro theme alive and be glad that Ford still offers the Mustang with V8, true dual exhaust, no IRS, 5-speed manual, limited slip rear, etc...
