Winter driving - best pick?
I'm considering a 2011 Mustang GT - and I live in Chicago, so you can guess how the weather is around here much of the year - in a word - bad.
The colors I'm thinking are silver and the red candy metallic. Does anyone have any thoughts on which of these two is less likely to show scratches and other damage, and will be less likely to look lousy when we have a slushy day?

I would go with silver. Red would show the salt way too easily. My Kona blue looks horrible in the winter time, but I wash it during the winter months daily. If you are concerned on the drive ability of the mustang my 2010 is by far the best mustang I have driven in the snow. Sure it's a 4.0 V6 but compared to my 08 Ranger (same Cologne block) it is hands down 100 times better. The fox body mustangs I owned (various 4, 6 and V8's) the 2010 is a 1000 times better. I even tried studded snow tires on my SVO and it was just awful. Good luck with your decision.

Try driving a black one through the winter. It's still dirty even right after you wash it.

I concur with the silver, it hides the salt pretty well (speaking from experience, driving a silver '05 GT in Ottawa Canada) Also, the S197's are very good on the ice and snow...so don't let anyone talk you out of a new Mustang because of falsely perceived fowl weather capabilities.
I'd do some research before choosing the Brembo brakes though, because you will need winter tires. I don't know if 18"s will fit over the front brakes and it will be costly to buy winter wheels and tires in 19"s.

I drive mine around all year too. My advice is to get the color you want for summer. Everyone's car is dirty around here after a storm. Even though silver is better at hiding it get the color that's going to make you happy in the months you show it off the most.

Thanks, everyone. This is very helpful. I like silver best, anyway, so this helps seal my decision.
I'm heading out on vacation for a week, then probably ordering the week I return. 2011 silver manual transmission GT with the red-brick interior. No stripes - I like the clean look.
I wonder how much I'll get for my trade in of my 2005 Prius.
