I've run a 315 before. It tucks a little on a 10 inch rim but it fits . I would go 305s if I had to do it all over again.

Widest tire on a 10" wheel

FRRP offers a 19" x 10" wheel that matches my Performance Package wheels on my 2011 GT 500. They should have made them std. on the car instead of the 20 x 9.5 wheels on the rears. I will be buying those shortly & running 305's out back. The car is awesome in all respects save one, it is traction challenged. The current 285's arent up to the job.

Hopefully as soon as we get decent wheather, i'll be able to comment on how my 285/40 Conti contact sport3 tires perform with the 19X10 SVTPP wheels. I say the safest width you would want to run on a 10" wheel would be 305's.

There's not one right answer for the widest tire because it depends on how you drive, the wheel backspacing, suspension mods and even the brand/model tire.

A wide tire that never rubs or rubs lightly for someone who takes it easy can be shredded by someone pulling max Gs. Or a tire might fit with one wheel backspacing but rub with another. A tire might rub at high Gs with stock suspension but not at all with control arms with spherical bearings. And I assume you mean advertised tire size and some brand/models with the same size designation can vary in actual width; if not straying from manufacturer recommendations that's never an issue but if you go wider...... I know that doesn't answer the question, but wanted to mention some things to add to your analysis.

The Boss & LS Mustangs run 285's on 9.5" or 10" rims.

Yes you can pinch a 305 on a 10" wide rim, but it will have no benefit other than the bragging right that you have a 305 out back. The minimum rim width that 99% of what most manafacturers recommend for a 305 is a 10.5" width rim. A 10" rim properly suppports a 285 width tire. I wouldn't go beyond this. Yes a 295 will fit as a max but the sidewall won't properly be supported.

A pic of a 285/30/19 on a 19X10" wide wheel..(also a reason to post a pic of my car)

I have to disagree here. My Lightning came with 18"x9.5" rims from the factory and came with Goodyear Eagle F1 295/45-18 stock. If SVT set it up this way, I assure you it was properly supported.

Oh great now you have two post with your car in it.. she is purdy

Well thats OK to disagree but I don't think the Lightning is a good example as the tire used is completely different that what would be on the Mustang. Go to Tirerack.com and you will see that a 295 normally requires as a minimum of a 10" wide wheel in sizes that the Mustang will use. The Eagle F1 tire for the Lightning are 28.4" tall vs. at best 27" tall for the Mustang.

Thanks for the kind comment though..

Wheel Offset

Ivan, this is going to depend on the offset of your wheel. I have 295/30/20's on 10'' wheels with 38mm offset on my 08 GT. It sits flush with the fender. If I went with anything wider, say 305, whis is almost a half inch wider, the tires will definitely stick out.

I think the only way 305's will fit is if you have a wheel offset that has at least a 45mm offset (larger the mm offset, the outside rims will go in towards the inner part of the fender).

Most tires have a range of wheel sizes and it varies from tire brand and model. Here is an example from Tire Rack you see the range and also the size wheel the other specs were measured on.

According to 'the Tire Rack', 295 is the widest tire that should be used on a 10" wide wheel.

That is correct, but look at the measured specs on which the tire was measured at..a 295 measured width is normally on a 10.5" width rim. Yes the minimum is 10" (not disagreeing with you, just pointing out what is optimal) but the specs are normally measured at optimal rim width, in which case a 295 tire is measured on a 10.5" rim. My 997S had 295/30/19s on the car stock but the rim was 11" wide. Porsche likes to use that streteched out sidewall so the tires contact patch under hard cornering isn't deforming and lifting the contact patch off of the pavement.

Does anyone know the size of the V6 PP wheels? What's the widest tires I can run on them? Right now they're 255/40

I think they are 9 inch wide. You 'might' be able to go with 275 wide tires. My V-6 came with 235 tires on 8 inch wide wheels, i 'might' go with 255 wide tires when these wear out.

Correct and the 255/40/19 is the widest that should be put on that wheel. A 255 really needs a 9" wide wheel to get the best performance out of this tire.

Aw, and I wanted to go wider. Oh well. I like the wheels and the 255, as opposed to the 235 without the package, isn't too bad

Thanks.

You can get a set of the Brembo wheels quite cheaply, your handling would be even better with the 9" wide wheel.
