"He said there are usually weekly races in the area and along nearby Sherman Way. The man said street racers often use a product known as VHT, a black compound sprayed or poured onto the street to increase the traction of a car's tires.
The man, who said was a mechanical engineer who worked on cars, said that "from the looks of it, the car didn't hook well" on the VHT and didn't get traction, "which caused it to ricochet off the track."

Very unfortunate this happened for all parties. One thing I would never do as a spectator to any sort of race is place myself "down track". For many years when we would "street race" at a spot in the Twin Cities, no one was allowed to be anywhere past the starting line. This was all pre-Fast and Furious generation. Once those numb skulls started bringing their craptastic cars out the organization of our group went downhill and I really have never participated since. Plus now I'm much older and don't have the time like I did in my 20's.
I get a kick out of how the NHRA has taken the licenses away from the Street Outlaws guys as I really think the NHRA has turned into a crappy orginization that lost its roots of what made it what it was. They use to lobby and fight for the racer to get tracks built around the country to take racing off the streets. We have wanted/needed a 1/4 mile racetrack within 1 hr of the Minneapolis area and have been shot down multiple times when 100% of funding was there.
I think these incidents should be a call out to the NHRA to stick some of their resources and influence to lobby and fight for new tracks. Otherwise street racing will continue at the accelerated pace it has and more tragities will happen.
Simple message to the public, you want racing off the streets, give them somewhere to race!

Its not just some kid with a 5.0 that thinks its fast. Hell, he got out on a GTR that seemed to be modded, and that takes some serious sheet. A GTR even stock can come out of the hole like a rocket, this 5.0 came out ahead of him off the line and was keeping up with him. This wasn't a puny 5.0, this was a hammer down Mustang.

Street racing in Las Vegas, Mustang vs Camaro ...
By KIMBERLY DE LA CRUZ
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
One person was in custody Monday after what police suspect as street racing led to a two-vehicle crash that ended on a Sunrise Mountain High School athletics field early Monday. It happened about 6 a.m., near the intersection of Carey Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, according to Metro. A light blue Ford Mustang crashed through a fence bordering the field and came to rest at the back wall of a baseball dugout. A black Chevrolet Camaro went through the same fence about 100 feet east of the Mustang and turned onto its side on the field. Tracy Luna and Abraham Nuno, both 24, were in the Mustang and fled on foot, leaving the driver of the Camaro, Jacob Sandoval, 29, of Las Vegas, critically injured and the crashed cars on the field, according to police. Sandoval was taken to University Medical Center. Metro spokesman Officer Larry Hadfield said Monday afternoon he did not have the name of the person who was in custody or what charges that person might face.

The Stang Had 1200HP and was an TT car. The guy laid a lot of rubber on the tarmac before all that, I think he never really had control of the car. I think he was spinning and once it gripped it launched him to the side... If this Stang had proper grip and this was done on the track the GTR would of had a run for its money. Anyhow RIP to those that lost their lives..

It seems that the owner of the stang was not driving and he hasn't giving the authorities the name of the driver. Also, one of the spectators killed owned a 1200hp gtr and went by the name chino. Sooner or later, someone will post up that one of these mustangs is a member on one of the mustang forums.

Wow i cant believe that these poor individual's lost there lives while enjoying and betting on this race for which they indulged in. This is a sad day for the performance enthusiasts a bound for sure. Keep it at the track, or atleast take it to someplace where " innocent" lives will not be affected by your ignorance. None of us here posting have ever raced at a light ever so we are perfect! And saintly..... " crickets"
