Why oh why do companies insist on using non standard radio stacks???

The new pic that Ford released today is of the interior: http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010m...rdNews20081103

Notice that very much non standard radio stack? It is going to be a MAJOR PAIN to install an aftermarket radio in that thing, if it is even possible (who knows what the dash layout looks like behind the panel).

There are standards for a reason. What's next? Are they going to play around with what side the clutch pedal goes on???

I hate factory radios. I hate not being able to do my own thing.

for the honda, there is a dash piece you order that replaces the one you remove when an aftermarket piece is added. it will probably be the same with the mustang; all it needs is the new dash piece

Yes! Fear not; the aftermarket will always find a way around whatever the factory does, especially with audio systems. Just costs more, and more difficult for the amateur thus discouraging many who would otherwise modify...

Just order the premium radio from ford and let the factory one be.

Exactly, the new system looks as though it will be a HUGE step above the current Shaker setup. With the new 8" integrated TFT screen, why would anyone want to install an aftermarket system? Might sound a little better...but won't look nearly as good.

I don't care how good a factory system is. I'd still want to upgrade it.

don't worry brothers, there will be a dash piece for it; there are a ton of people that put the pioneer nav unit in the civic and they got the dash kit for it easy... don't worry

yeah, same here. factory audio will never be good enough. if they made it good enough, the markups would make it be a $10,000 option. (they charge you $1000 for $100 worth of parts made in china/mexico. imagine what they would charge you for a modest $1000 system that sounds decent)

They put them in there so you have to go to them for upgrades until an aftermaket radio comes along thats better and cheaper.

Most cars have a 'non-standard' radio stack. Look at Volvo.

Yeah and the two speakers on your TV set work great for Dolbgy Digital 7.1 too!

I'll always upgrade. If its a car I plan on keeping. Factory will never be good enough.
