Why oh why do companies insist on using non standard radio stacks???
I never said anything, but TampBear, your posting IS annoying. I am never one to quibble about such things on a forum, but for the most part you have insightful posts, but I can't stand to read them. Your font is just hard to read on a computer screen. Now I just skip over your posts.

And the new system is supposedly made by Sony. There you go right there. There will NOT be another Sony branded stereo product in ANY of my cars EVER again. They make crap car audio. Factory engineered or not. Even the Mark Levinson and Nakamichi stereos from Lexus will never be good enough to a true audiophile. I'm going on my 4th set-up of components in my car right now. The Mustang isn't the best place to build a SQ system because they are rattle traps, but that is what makes it fun. I have a 5 channel amp and an Alpine CDA-9835 and I'm running my components and sub with the built in active crossovers. Some guys can build engines and tinker with timing and cams to get the ride powerband...audio lovers tinker with crossovers and EQs to get the right sound reproduction. I personally like to combine them. So therefore, I will never leave a stock system in any of my cars ever again!
That being said, a lot of Mustang buyers won't be as picky as I am, and would be content with the Sony/Shaker system. And some will be content adding a RF 3.Sixty or JL Audio Cleansweep and an amp and some passively crossed over components and a powered sub. And some will go all out and tear out the complete dash and build fiberglass pods for their components and go active like I am. We all have our opinions and there will always be people that go the extra yard to get that last hp or that last decibel. BUT, Ford knows most people will be fine with stock systems so might as well make the dash look nice by integrating the buttons to shut the magazine critics up who expect the Mustang to emulate a luxury car's interior. That, and like we have said, they were doing this to ALL of their cars'/trucks/ interiors so it was just part of the new corporate dash.

As I Said I Am Not Trying To Upset Anyone. If Your Thing Is Upgrading Your Stereo, Then To Each His Own, But I Also Read Somewhere That Ford Is Using Sony Now, Or In The Near Future For All Their Audio Systems. Also, Something I Didn't Mention Is The Ability To Use Things Like The Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls, Sync, Etc That Aftermarket Units Usually Disable Or Bypass.
BTW, I Agree Paper Cone and Foam Speakers Do Suck! As For Distortion, Personally I Don't Listen To My Stereo Loud Enuff To Hear Any Distortion. But I'm more Than Satisfied With The Factory Unit.

It made sense to a certain point.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Sony car audio either.

You cannot control the ambient noise in a car (engine, exterior sounds, etc.), nor can an an aftermarket system do much about interior acoustics (based upon materials), obstructions, angles, position of various listeners, etc. Therefore, by definition, no matter how good it is, it will be compromised in some way. It's sort of like a partially hearing-impaired person buying tickets to a live concert.
I don't know how "good" it needs to be out in the field. Everybody is listening to MP3 players, yet we all know that's one of the crappiest formats out there for a true audiophile. Yet the convenience in one's car of being able to plug an iPod into the in-car system is enormous.
I do agree overall about the comment concerning Sony car audio, however. It's at the lower end of the established brand names. That said, it's doubtless much better than anything Delphi or Visteon will ever crank out (aka much better than the current Shakers).

Speaking of what it would take to put an aftermarket unit in, look at this monstrosity in our new Accord. The picture doesn't even start to do justice as to how far it is between the controls and the display up there under the windshield, which also displays all of the climate control info as well.

The steering wheel in the Challenger is what I don't like.
The factory set up is good enough for me, for I am past the days up all that noise booming in my eardrums. The exhaust note is my main music anyway and I have a stock exhaust... Just wait til I get my L/T's...
And Tampa Bear, your font is killing my vision man...

I'm in love with the new sync 2.0 system and I'm hoping that's what is in the Stang. If it is, then I'm not switching the radio out. However, even though I found the shaker system a huge improvement to the last vehicles I have owned, it doesn't go loud enough, nor does the bass go low enough. I know I'm going out on a limb here, but if any of these radios had pre-amp outputs, I 'd be 100% happy.
Also, I really don't want to use and aftermarket mounting kit. I've used a bunch, and none of them ever look great. They work, but they don't fit well. A gap here, misalignment there. They never look as good as the oem

Speaking of SYNC (as gremlin mentioned), IF you have SYNC in your new 2010 Mustang, but want to upgrade the audio system, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SYNC!!! Its integrated into the factory radio. If your looking for a navigation system, just pay the coin for the factory navigation. I used the one in the new Ford Flex and its AWESOME!! Sirius Travelink with gas prices, movie times, weather, sports scores, is impressive. Plus its a hard drive with the ability to hold 2300 songs, and if they use whats in the new 2009 Escape, it will hold digital pictures for backround settings, and will most likely play movies, as the Escape does now (albeit while in park). So just remember, No SYNC with aftermarket radio, if SYNC is in the car.
Wow. Don't take offense at my tone, but if you are upgrading to an aftermarket system, you definately do not go with Sony.
Sony doesn't make anything worthwhile for car audio.. low end brand with low end products.
(Now, given that one of my amps IS a Sony XPlode amp that I got from walmart for $99. I only have it because I consider it to be equivalent to the factory head unit amp, which I did not work with my system. And I'm cheap)
The fact that Ford might go with SONY in their cars is NOTHING to brag about. It might even be something to be embarassed about. [/rant over]

For Those Who Have Complained
Since So Many Of You Seem To Be Annoyed By My Postings Due To My Style Of Font And Color I Will Change The Size Of The Font And De-Bold It For A Start. I Hope This Apeases Some Of You Who Have Complained.... I Hope This Doesn't Offend Anyone.
Also it might be easier for you to type too, if you didn't have to press the shift key all the time.. but that's just a suggestion to make it easier to read; you should be able to type however you want to.
I don't think a font or color should be enough to "offend" anyone. If you like to use that font or color then do it, thats why they have the choice, so just do what you like.
Thanks Guys, I Appreciate The Comments In Support. I've Tried Typing Without Capitalizing Each Word But As I Said Previously I Leared To Type This Way On The Job Some Where Years Ago, As It Was A Requirement Of The Company I Workd For, And It Is Really Hard To Change It.
As For That Study krnpimpsta, It's Not The Shape Of The Word, It's That The First And Last Letter Must Be In the Propper Position. So If You Jubmle Up The Lettres In A Wrod The Huamn Brian Can Sitll Mkae Out Waht The Wrod Maens. I Actually Just Saw A Bunch Of Optical Illusions Online And Saw This Explained.
Again, I'm Sorry If This Has Bothered Anyone.

The study I was talking about was really comparing reading speed of ALL CAPS versus lower case words. ALL CAPS were harder to read because they had no discernable shape to the word. I dunno how this applies to This Sort Of Text, but I'm just randomly throwing out some theories.
I know what you're referring to.. the "Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are.." paragraph. But can you cheernmpod ealctxy waht tihs is and dpcheeir iddauivinl wrods in this stcnneae? ("but can you comprehend exactly what this is and decipher individual words in this sentence?")... harder for different words..
Anyway, I'm rambling.. my real point: I think it's easier to read in lower case, but type the way that you want to type. You have a good reason and no one will hate you for it. Just out of curiosity, what sort of work were you doing where you had to type that way?

Haha. I feel bad now. Even though I did complain, I personally wouldn't change my style even if people pointed it out. Like I said, I'm on a LOT of other forums, and even though my post count says I don't post a lot on this one, I've been around for years (years before I actually joined too) and read up a lot. Actually, the non-bold font is that much easier to read right off the bat. Again TampaBear a lot of your posts are very insightful...just difficult to read quickly. My buddies come over sometimes and I'll be reading online and they're amazed how quick I can go through a whole page of posts. I have most of my forums set to display 40-60 posts on one page to minimize clicking and I can usually scroll through all the posts in a minute or two. Just slows me down to read someone with a different font. Selfish? yeah...Do I expect you to change your style for ME?? naw...
And krnpimpsta, I don't think anyone was bragging about Sony audio in the Mustang. However, I do agree that whatever "system" they come up with won't be any worse than the Visteon systems. And I'm well aware of all the variables that go into producing an audio system that is acceptable to the market...but those challenges aren't going to stop me from ripping out the factory stuff and putting in my own stuff. I'd be completely content with the stock looking dash (and will probably go for the new Nav/Sync unit when it comes time to buy) as long as I have some kind of processor that will hook up to the factory stuff, let me keep Sync, and give me active crossovers and a good EQ.

I used to replace the stereo in my cars when I was younger, but I find the factory stereos in my cars to meet my needs nowadays.
You want to have a nightmare? I have a Mazda CX-9. The stereo is double DIN size, but nobody makes an installation kit for a double DIN unit in that vehicle. Come to find out that the radio and the climate control share the same display and circuitry, so it would be quite a work around to get them to work together again, or so I'm told by a kit manufacturer.
