Why does my brake pedal clunk??

Does anyone else experience this? It makes like a bang/clunk on every release. It's pretty loud actually,....I have had passengers comment.

I looked under the pedal for a stop that I though may be missing.....no such thing under there. Is something wrong? Bad booster?

I hate this noise, it's driving me nuts!

Mine does this too. I've never checked another vehicle to see if it's the same.

My brake pedal clunks and my clutch pedal creeks ... my gas pedal makes me smile and forget about the rest.

Mine does too. I thought there was a return bumper missing from the pedal assembly and like you, nosed around in there but found nothing. The sound might be coming from a positive stop in the power assist vacuum module.

Can't argue with 99mstng's philosophy though!

Might just be the rubber seal around the brake shaft. WD-40 the shaft where it goes thru the firewall with the straw attached to the can. Not sure if that's it but it sounds like it might be.

there is another thread in the forum about this issue. The PO listed a SSM (special service message) 32129 leading to brake master cylinder replacement if it can be confirmed the clunk is excessvie indeed by comparing with other mustangs.

They obviously didn't fix this issue with the newer models because my 2014 GT also does this. I thought about taking the car in for this but after fighting with Ford for two months trying to get my radio screen repaired under warranty, I'm not ready to address this issue yet. I still have plenty of warranty time and mileage left so I may address it in the future.

What is it with Ford and not wanting to fix warranty work? They're pissing off a TON of people...this has been going on a TON with the Focus community as well.

And if Ford corporate isn't being helpful...then the other times it's the dealer being complete turds about doing decent work and not being a pain in the ***.

They really need to focus on the customer service side of things. Hell, the only reason I bought another Ford was because of the rebates and X plan pricing making it the cheapest I could get (and still enjoy). They've already pissed me off a bunch with my Focus.

Bring it in, 70monte. I’ll get it escalated for you if needed. Let me know when you do.

I think the clunk just comes with the car. My 2010 clunked, then it went away. My '13 didn't clunk, and it does now. It doesn't bother me, but I understand how it can bother others.

Thank you Deysha,
Mine doesn't do it all of the time and it doesn't bother me that much. I had read about this issue on the forums so I knew what it was when mine first did it. I will probably address it at some point but the weather here has not been very good and I don't drive this car in bad weather so it can wait. I will let you know when I decide to get it addressed. Thanks again.

Bump on an old thread. Has anyone gotten this taken care of? I took mine to the dealership because I'm not okay with the clunk, and they didn't do anything.

I've owned a lot of vehicles, and nothing has had this if it's had a properly working brake system. (Diesel tow trucks, to Audi/BMW sports cars, to Off road Jeeps, to Economy cars)

I'm lost on this. I have a 2006 Pony V6 and a 2014 GT track and not one of them do this?

Was it a bad part that only some received?

Mine doesn't do this so I don't know. I've beat on her brakes hard lately and still nothing. Hope you guys get it sorted out.

Did they say what the cause of it was, CorneliusRox? What year, and how many miles are on your vehicle?

My 2012 does this as well. Kinda annoying! Sure would like to find out how to fix it! Will be checking back to see if anyone comes up with a fix!
