Why is this becoming a thing?

Halos started on BMWs, stock from the factory. I don't like halos on mustangs, but I've seen some with neons that I thought looked ok. Would I have on my own? Probably not. But a black car with dim silver neons done correctly to cast light and not show the bulb looked ok to me.

If I put lights on my car or motorcycle, there is but ONE reason it's done:
Visibility. Of ME to the OTHERS.
I mean, I can't see them unless I'm not in the car, so...
Now, what I mean is not to show off "HEY LOOKIT!", although if that's what happened, cool. No, I mean "hey there, I'm **RIGHT HERE** don't hit me."
I have put extra lights pointing forward, extra ones highlighting the sides, and extras that came with my topcase on the motorcycle to ensure that I'm as visible as I can possibly be at night... or even the day, if it helps.
For that reason, I would put halos on my car. Because you DO see them, even in the daytime. Better, even, than the DRLs, I think. As it is, I turn on my regular headlamps just about any time I'm in the car. Just in case.
Now, the undercar lights, that sort of thing? . Whatever floats your boat, not me.

Go back even farther....in the 60's we used to do colored running lights tucked into wheel wells and under hoods just to set the car apart from others at shows. I remember seeing hotrods from the 50's with unique decorative lighting also. All about different.....and just like any mod, not for everybody.

And this is the last time I ever want to see the subjects of gay and Mustang conflated again.

I think everyone goes through these phases, specially in the teen years... The difference is, some have the money to actually do it, while others don't get the chance until they get enough money and they've already grown out of that phase.
So, sounds like we're all getting old here!
It also depends in what car culture you grow up in, and who your car/motorsports idles are as you grow up.

I am talking about subtle lights like the ambient lighting that Ford puts in some of their cars. People who normally aren't into cars, aren't aware that they come that way and are usually a little wowed by the lighting. I am not saying go full on fast and furious neon racer but subtle lighting can be classy.
