The wind caused this to get outta control fast. I would wager that even this obviously untrained, unpracticed crew would have been able to put out a fire that wasn't fed as much oxygen due to the headwind on that day.
Also, you never open the hood. Ever. Even with that wind, the fire would pop right into your face, or just be fed worse. What they did there is correct, pop it, leave it like that, spray into the opening. Get it knocked down, THEN open the hood.
But again, the wind was really making that a cauldron, rather bad luck all the way 'round.

Man, I feel for that dude! I would be crying in my sleep. LOL
Good luck explaining that to the insurance company. Looks like he's on the hook for the totaled car. Wicked sucks.

wow that's terrible. That started out as such a small fire.
Question for you guys, so that's essentially a total loss, right? And how does insurance figure in? Since he was on the track, is he just S.O.L.? Meaning, insurance doesn't cover that? He's out 30k?
edit: that's why I'll never track/race my car....

Awesome job on the guys part. Popping that hood would have caused something similar to a backdraft in a home/door situation...
That fire was hungry!

A lot of people track their cars, and that's because it's the only legal way to actually DRIVE the car, and enjoy it for what it is: a driving machine. Some of us want to feel the thrill speed and limits of traction bring, not just look at pretty pictures.
And yes, there is track insurance. It's expensive, but you have to pay to play.
