Wheels experts! Pros and cons of these two sizes.

When the weather breaks, I am going to dump the stock wheels and tires. I found the wheel I want and have narrowed it down to these two sizes; 18X8 and 19X8.5. What are the pros and cons of each size? Thanks!

Edit; this will be a standard steup

Why those sizes?

Since your car is an automatic, if you change tire height by much you will need a new tune to correct the transmission function, to keep it shifting at the correct speed and to correct the speedometer.

For a basic setup, I would go with a 18x9 and some 255/45/18 tires and a tune, or if you want to avoid adding an aftermarket tune then go with a tire the same overall diameter as stock, like a 275/45/18.

Exactly. Why those specific sizes? Makes no sense.

Ps I'm no "expert" lol

Not to jack the thread but...

Hey Z how is the +40 offset on your Niches. Do they stick out at all? Just looking at the Targas or possibly Apex's
and they have the same offset but i thought the +45 offset was preferrable or maybe i have it mixed up.

Sup haze... I posted some questions for you in your recent posts too, about your flat stoppers

It sits flush, but may stick out by a hair, and actually is perfect, with that aggressive muscle look. I love it. Here, you be the judge. Btw, in these pics I just was able to mount one side (still winter here). Not sure if it will center itself more with the other side. I might have to adjust my bmr panhard bar too.

That setup looks great. Doesn't really stick out imo just looks right. Like you said maybe a small tweak to the phb will fix if it is off... but yeah that winter thing. Don't get me started, another deep freeze coming this week and enough snow to upset a snowman right now. Lol

I was looking at wheel/tire packages on AM. Found a wheel I like and those are the sizes it comes in. I have a tuner, so doing a new tune is not a problem. I know a wider tire means better performance, but I am also concerned about ride quality. Not sure if an inch larger and a half inch wider would be a big difference. I think the stock wheel is 17X7? So I guess even the 18X8 would be a good improvement. Just looking for some feedback between the two sizes.

Well, if you go to the 19's the ride will be stiffer due to the shorter sidewall.

Beyond that the choice is what you like and what you can afford.
