Wheel Quest

Sorry for the millionth wheel thread.

I am on a quest for a new set of wheels for the spring. I have been reading through many different threads, a lot of good information. After looking at gobs of pictures, enough to make my head spin, I’m would like to make a purchase this week, but looking for some input before I pull the trigger, as I have analyzed this to death.
  • Budget < $1600 for the set. Wheels only. I have a new-ish (about 3k on them) set of tires and the wife would kill me if I have to buy new tires this year.
  • Size 19x9.5 – not looking for staggered. My car is a DD, so looking to be able to rotate them. Are there any issues with a 9.5 on all 4 that I should be aware of?
  • Style – like the Mesh look and variations of it, twin 5 spoke.
  • Offset - ?? would need help here. I don’t want them too close or sticking out, looking to keep tucked under the fenders, and no rubbing.
  • Color – looking for silver, hypersilver, machined face etc. No chrome.
  • Weight – right now I’m looking for a lighter weight wheel. Eg. Flow Form, Rotary spun/forged, in the 20-24 pound range.
  • TSW –Bathurst has an et39 , do they have the right offsets, would they work and look good? Around 22.5 lbs
  • Apex – not available in 19?
  • Forgestar – cons longer wait period 6-8 weeks.
  • SSR – over my budget.
  • HSE – way over my budget
  • VMR – V810 not currently available
  • Avant Garde – M310 Cast a little heavier. Pro’s Price! About 1k for the set.

What else should I look at or what have I missed.
Thanks for reading.

You could look at Niche. I have the Targa's, but they are way too heavy for you, at 38lbs ea. I know they offer other more lightweight wheels on their site.

I like the Targas and that style, but wow if they are that heavy, I'll have to pass, I think that is more than stock wheels. Is 38 correct or was that a typo? Did you mean 28, many of the 19x9.5 are around 28 give or take a pound or so.

I'm trying to balance cost and weight, and if I'm not able to then I'll have to look more closely at cast wheels.

When I find a wheel with a light weight it isnt for our car or it's not the right size etc.

SVE Drifts come in all those colors with a great offset in 19x9.5, clear the Brembo's, have a lifetime structural warranty, weight in at 26 per wheel, and cost less than $750 shipped for a whole set.

This would leave you with more cash for some more mods. I didn't see anything brakes related in your mod list. But that's none of my business. LOL

BOOM !!!

What is the widest tire you can put on the front with mods? Widest that fits the factory rims on a Brembo car?

I wouldn't go any larger than a 285 on the Brembo wheels and it depends on the tire make. Some run wider like the BFG's. I run 275's and there's a little too much sidewall bulge than I'm used to. I know guys can go 285/35/18 squared with the SVE Drifts in 18x10 without issue. I'm doing this should I keep my car.

Thanks for the SVE drifts. I like the style. I forgot about Latemodel. I have been looking at so many sites, my eyes are permanently crossed, and forgot where I've been.

The wife is controlling my modding . I have the ok for new wheels but with a budget. If I spent 800 on wheels she isnt going to let me spend 800 on something else...I dont think.

Correct I'm still running stock brakes pads/rotors. If they wear out then I'd have to replace them

I do have a UCA that I need to put on, but was waiting for warmer weather, and will probably have a shop put it on. That looks like a PITA to install.

Buy her something nice...she'll be more generous. I used my savings to buy my wife her 2003 Miata in May of 2012. She really liked the '99 I used to have so we got her the 2003 that she found and loved. That selflessness resulted in her finding me my '13 GT and buying it new instead of used like we had planned. I was going to get an '11 or '12 GT used in 2013. Instead, I got a new '13 in July 2012...and it was her idea.

My fronts (9" wide) used to have 285/35/19s on them (BFG g-Force). So, that'll fit fine without any rubbing issues. I now run a 265/35 on the front and I like it better though. It doesn't want to pull me all over the road anymore and still has an ever-so-slight bulge.

You know, I actually pulled that off of a spec sheet on their site...but, I have seen multiple sites that list the weight at 28lbs... I couldn't tell you for sure with the sumitomos on mine right now, but I think 38 lbs is wrong.

I went 275/40/19 square and mine likes to tramline often now. Definitely no rubbing with my tires, but I have the same-ish clearance from the brembo's as I did stock, AND I just noticed that the inner valve stem(my rim has 2...new to me) clears the side of the caliper by maybe a 1/4 inch. Perhaps this is the source of my TPMS fails at sustained highway speeds?

I may switch to staggered and get adjustable sways and a Watts link along with all the other adjustable stuff so I can tune back to neutral handling and still have more traction when I need it with the wider tires out back with a sharper turn in.

Can you educate me, what is tramline? I am not familiar with that term.

Found it on Tirerack. Yep I've experienced that, didnt know what it was called, or that there was a term for it.

Do a search on TireRack for wheels and input the search using a 2013 Boss. Then sort them for the lightest wheels. The new Avanti racing wheel is 19x9.5 in a +40 offset and weighs in at 20lbs per wheel. I know you said you didn't want staggered so I don't know if the backspacing will fit the fronts in that size but it says the 19x8.5 will. For around 1K per set. That peaked my interest. I would pair them with the Pirelli P-Zero Corsa system tires for less than 2K total. And I would only use them for track days when I know it's not going to rain. Semi-slicks and wet don't mix.

You can always use the forum discount for any wheels on our site. The code is GVMWJ4GQ and it is good for 6% off.

I hope to be doing wheels this spring, been back and forth on what I want but I think I have finally settled on Rohana RC 10 wheels.

285.

To the OP, good luck with the research. I remember when I had to find mine. It was fun and frustrating (at times). It will ultimately depend on you, but there are a lot of good mesh style wheels there. Hard to choose.

It's 285 for the widest in any case, I believe for the factory Brembos, some folks fit a 275 at the widest point without bulging. I wouldn't go any wider that 275 on the Brembos, 285 for aftermarket wheels, usually 19 or 20 x 9 or 9.5.

I see you're from Warner Robins GA? I have a few employees headed down there this summer for some government depot work. I should go there sometime.

So Burton, if I went with a set of 19x9.5 SVE Drifts would you recommend 285/35/19 or 275/35/19? I'm lowered on Steeda Sports.
